Three years ago, BRAD BLOG alum David Edwards first ran this rarely-seen full version of Dr. Martin Luther King’s August 28, 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech on these pages.
We’re happy to post it in full again today, of all days — on Martin Luther King Day, and the day before the first African-American finally takes the oath as President of the United States — as more relevant than ever, including the now-familiar phrase: “the fierce urgency of now”.
If you’ve never seen or heard it in full, or even if you have, we hope you’ll enjoy it. Let freedom ring…

Richmond poet and civil rights figure LaVerne Byrd Smith reads a poem she wrote the day Martin Luther King Jr. died:

Thank you for this post.
Symbolism can be very powerful, and seeing this speech in it’s entirety, instead of the sound bytes that have been manipulated by the upper-white class media for decades is important. Sort of like having C-span in 1963.
As we all know from reading BradBlog, voter suppression ain’t just for blacks anymore, maybe it never was. We only started paying attention after the obvious, high level, theft in 2000.
To see the president elect at the Washington Mall yesterday, groovin’ to the music and looking presidential at the same time was a great snapshot, but our new and legitimate President must use the bully pulpit to call attention to the fallacy of “accurate” or “verifiable” elections using corporate machines and personnel to tabulate the truth of who we are.
Whether we have he right to elect our president has yet to be chiseled into the constitution, but we should have to right not to be fooled into thinking we do.
Its to bad that Dr. King plagiarized most of that speech, and the Obama is not qualified under the Constitution to be President, and that the entire Country is so desperate for ‘change’ that it doesnt even matter.
I can already here the guilt ridden white guys mummering in the background, so let me elucidate you to some FACTS. Firstly Dr. King: http://www.amren.com/mtnews/archives/2009/01/the_unknown_mar.php
And secondly the case that Obama is not Constitutionally qualified:

One more thing: “It did not matter who won the election.” The handlers around Obama are, for the most part, members of the Council on Foreign Relations. “The elite.” “The globalists.” They are essentially the same people who ran the Clinton administration and both Bush Administrations. “There will be absolutely no change in either our domestic or foreign policy. (My note: the people who have looted this country will continue to loot this country.) Regarding economic policies “Obama” will be another Hoover.” In other words Obama will follow orders and will take the fall for the economic calamity that is about to unfold. (My note: Obama is another feckless, empty suit, who was selected, trained, groomed, packaged and sold to a gullible, naive and lazy American public.)”http://www.henrymakow.com/dear_friends_and_family.html
What is truly funny is that we are in the same situation that we where in with Bush. You know, all of you who supported him before it became evident what was really taking place. You people didnt listen then, nor will you listen now. And, you never admit your faults.
Go ahead, have fun, celebrate, and then once you wake up into reality; if that ever happens for the lot of you, lets get going and truly solve the problems of the Country. Oh and Brad, stop acting so cool, and get your head out of your ass please, its really getting old. We need you to.

Oh, and thanks for posting the speech.

I don’t think Obama compares that favorably with MLK, except maybe in popularity. Dr. King was a true hero on a global scale and Obama has not done anything that enduring by a long shot. Obama is an inspiring orator, too, but, again, not on the scale of Dr. King.
I think Obama will be the best american president ever.
