In response to critical comments by former Republican Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger, rightwing talker and self-proclaimed “Dean of the Limbaugh Institute for Conservative Studies,” Rush Limbaugh, offered a fresh and perhaps telling explanation this morning for his ongoing attacks on presumptive Republican Presidential nominee John McCain.
“We’re trying to avoid a fifty state landslide!” Limbaugh shouted angrily in reply to the comments from Eagleburger, who had slammed him and fellow Republicanist entertainer Sean Hannity of Fox “News” and ABC Radio.
“I don’t know who elected Rush Limbaugh or Hannity as the heads of this conservative movement,” Eagleburger says at the beginning of a clip from MSNBC last night that was aired on today’s radio show. “They throw that word around as if it was theirs and theirs alone.”
“I thought I was a conservative, but that doesn’t mean that I have to buy off on everything these poobahs thinks is what’s necessary to be a conservative,” continued the former Sec. of State, before defending what he sees as McCain’s conservative national security credentials.
Eagleburger’s slam would lead to a telling outburst in reply from Limbaugh (full audio posted at the end of this article)…
The apparently irksome comments by the former high-ranking Republican statesman reflects the continuing confusion and dismay among an increasingly dispirited, disjointed and desperate Republican Party, torn apart after seven years of what all but 19% of America sees as the failed Presidency of George W. Bush, coupled with the party’s inability to select a 2008 Presidential nominee perceived as being both Conservative on all fronts and entirely flip-flopless.
On the taped portion of his comments, as aired by Limbaugh, Eagleburger concluded by adding, “They boggle my mind in terms of what it is they think they’re doing. The whole thing is so confusing, and so illogical that I cannot understand what they have on their minds,” before El-Rushbo broke into his tirade.
“We’re trying to win. We’re trying to avoid a fifty state landslide, Dr. Eagleburger!,” Limbaugh hollered in reply. “We’re trying to win!,” he said again.
He then launched into an attack on the former State Department official who served under Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr., and who now serves as an analyst for MSNBC — referred to by Limbaugh conversely as “DNC TV” and “PMSNBC” on the program.
“We’ve always wanted to win!,” Limbaugh continued in his defense before releasing a huge sigh of exasperation. And then…”We don’t have a death wish!”
He went on to attack Eagleburger at length, yet again, later in the broadcast. Limbaugh’s telling admission came during the first hour of his nationally syndicated radio broadcast this morning.

Thanks for your invaluable site. perhaps your readers would be interested in a slightly different landslide comment:I think a lot of folks have underestimated the acumen with which Dr. Paul has played the game to win the election. He’s rightfully given his grass roots the estimation they deserve, knowing that they are the key to success. He knows that his supporters are sold on the ideas he’s espoused, and their numbers will only grow. This phenomenon really has the GOP over a barrel, because they know that without R.P.supporters, they have no prayer of winning. The most they can hope for is being held up to ridicule if they run anybody else. Let’s look at this, shall we?

Yep, a 50 state landslide would be a good start, but the Crawford Jail still needs some work.
Lets face it. True conservatism never existed in the party of Lincoln but only in the party of the George Wallace traditionalist Democratic one and this insideous transformation of southern whites to the party of King Abe who carpetbagger Bush worships since 1964 has been a complete disaster as was intended by the sneaky neocons. In the same token we know blacks were led into the Democratic party to complete the deceptive trickery since why would blacks not be in the party of Lincoln who liberated them 100 yrs earlier?
Lincoln was clearly the original Marxist GOP reading the Manifesto many times we understand as Karl and Fredrick smiled from across the pond.
Today however what we have is 2 GOP Marxist party one rule and clearly this is seem by the number of neocons in Congress and in control. Even Wallace noted this in 1968 running for prez saying there wasnt a dime of difference in either party.
Bush has meanwhile managed to destroy what was left of America with his elitism GOP neocon party and managed to destroy the south in the process posing as a Texan with his fake accent and we know Limbaugh is a partner in crime with him adoring his misegenated SC justice Thomas so frequently.
Neocon elistism aka pharisee-ism controls America. The real America in the south where the nation was founded and where all its founding documents were written was tricked into slavery by these neocons and then destroyed using the weaker northern brains who were forced to fight and then 100 years later wiped out again with the GOP transfer.
We have a one party system today. Thats the second time Ive seen Obama refered to as an empty suit, if Im correct that this implies hes done nothing then its a poorly researched opinion. Not that Im an Obama fan, I’d have voted for Kucinich.

wrt “Republicanist”, I’d just suggest that you all start do as I am doing, since they can’t seem to bring themselves to say “Democratic Party”, but prefer “democrat party”. So I think it’s fair if we always refer to them as GOPers, and if the pronunciation starts to be “rhymes with slop”, rather then “Gee Oh Pee”, well, they started this, and they can stop it.
I just don’t think we need to accord respect to crooks and felons who give us none.

I have to admit that mugshot isn’t all that bad.
Rush, blabber mouth Limbaugh, is incapable of knowing what’s up or down. His comprehension of reality has been strangulated from the moment he emerged as the nunmber one propagandist for a theo-fascist USA. The man’s brain has malfunctioned since he wore short pants and played in the sand box with his imaginary playmates.
Limbaugh reaches millions of ‘ditto-heads’ each day. This simple folk trust and believe in what he says. If he wants them to vote against McCain, they probably will.
Limbaugh gets his paycheck from some very, very far right wing-nuts with vast bank accounts. They only pay those pundits who say what they want the public to hear. If Rush or any of them switched to another tune, they’d get their final two-weeks severance check the next morning. That’s how corporate media works.
