If only those young republicans would volunteer:

That Tony sees it that way is a compelling argument to the contrary.
Like the tag team and I when I say Holt HR 811 [a,b] / S. 559 will NOT be signed into law as originally written.
The republicans in the Senate are strongly enough against S. 559 principles so as to filibuster it (if they ever get it out of committee in the first place).
This whole conversation about the possibility of instituting a draft is meaningless until those who are having this conversation will tell Americans how many mercenary soldiers there are in Iraq and in Afghanistan right now, exactly who these mercenary soldiers are, how and how much they are being paid, and what their post-combat zone benefits/care are.
The only American citizens aware of the real numbers of soldiers in harms way to support the b/c GWOT are those who get their news on the internet, definitely NOT those who get their news from TV.
Exactly Linda, people have no clue as to the real number of ‘soldiers’ US and hired are really in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why the news don’t do their job nightly on TV and inform the masses of truths is more creepy now that even before, because they know we’re on to them, but just continue witht he lies and toned down half truths. It’s scarier than scary!
The other thing hurting recruitment is that most Americans now know that Bush lied to start the war in Iraq. Around late 2005 or early 2006, those that know we were lied into war grew into a solid majority. The people who still believe the president are about one third.
If Bush was innocent of this, and wanted to win the war, he could defend himself with the vast resources that the President has. Bush can’t defend himself, because he lied.
Many more Americans would volunteer to put their lives on the line if Bush could come up with a credible explanation of the damning facts.
Many more Americans would have much more patience for the war if the reason was based on the truth, rather than lies.
George W. Bush undermined his own war from the start when he lied, because it would only be a matter of time before we figured it out, and we did (mostly) figure it out.
Exactly, BEJAMMIN. And Bush’s insistance on secrecy is undermining his own GWOT efforts, whether one supports those efforts or not. When he tells us that he can’t tell us specifically how he’s “making progress,” how his nonstop breaking of the 1978 FISA law for almost six years has saved American lives, and specifically how extracting serial confessions using coercive methods on suspected terrorists deemed “high-value detainees” has thwarted terrorist attacks on U.S. soil and elsewhere, I have to ask “WHY NOT?”
If he were to provide Americans with plausible explanations as to how these “gloves off” policies are proving effective, imagine the support he would get from not only Americans, but from his so-called “coalition of the willing.” This would HAVE to have a positive effect on military recruiting. After all, he holds accountable those of us who are speaking out against his policies as “emboldening the enemy.” Why the MSM is not pressing him on this point is mind-boggling. His argument that he can’t divulge what we are doing to outsmart the evil-doers, because they would adapt their tactics to outsmart us, makes no sense at all when you take into account that al Qaeda is ALREADY changing its tactics continuously, and ahead of our thinking. And besides that, he IS divulging information to Americans, just not enough for us to make informed decisions about his performance, but always enough to scare the living daylights out of us.
As far as I can tell, he is NOT putting effort into winning his GWOT by adopting policies that would garner the support he says he needs in order to be successful. Instead, he is putting effort into winning his GWOT by removing our civil liberties, and by undermining our democracy in other ways. Why more Americans aren’t recognizing this is very disappointing.
I agree, if this were not a war of aggression… there would be no shortage of recruits. Blame the lard asses in DC…. not the disengaged at home.
Dick “Shooter” Cheney can defend his own oil fields.
The Iraqis can defend their own oil fields.
Our troops can come home and defend our shores.
Problem solved.
The lady finally got it right at the end–we must close our bases of occupation around the world. The solution to the “troop shortage” is not a draft but a new foreign policy of neutrality and non-intervention which demands far less troops!
Would you be willing to spread the word about http://www.draftresistance.org? It’s a site dedicated to shattering the myths surrounding the selective slavery system and building mass civil disobedience to stop the draft before it starts!
Our banner on a website, printing and posting the anti-draft flyer or just telling friends would help.
Thanks!
Scott Kohlhaas
PS. We would rather see the band break up the draft than the draft break up the band!
Hmmm… tony blankley seems to have lost the weight … he used to be a whale.
Draft Fucking College republicans ! ! !
