WaPo’s Ezra Klein described it as a “Freudian gaffe”…
To be fair, Romney’s not the first Presidential candidate in recent history to have made a similar mistake.
Stumbling starts aside though, a Ryan/Romney Romney/Ryan vs. Obama/Biden contest might have made for a very welcome debate on two fairly, some might say starkly, different visions for this country’s future, at least on fiscal and domestic policy issues. A very clear governing mandate for one of those two different directions might have helped move this country forward for a change.
If we had a level playing field with a system of publicly financed elections, access for all to the voting booth and a citizen-overseeable voting and tabulation system in this country so that this nation could have deliberated, spoken and have been heard in a crystal clear voice this November, this one might have been a really good and healthy election.

How altruistic (not to mention optimistic) of Romney to cede the position! I’m sure
RandRyan greatly appreciates that.Brad writes:
These tools of the billionaire class are not about to have an honest debate about these “starkly different visions for this country’s future” — at least not given these poll numbers:
What you’ll see, instead, is the latest GOP version of The Great American Jobs Scam, coupled, of course, with a good dose of voter suppression; perhaps mixed in with a manipulation of e-voting systems.
What the American people should see is this:
Wishful thinking… at best.
Within the past 72 hours we’ve had Obama whining to the press that the corporate media hadn’t given him enough credit for his attempts to dismantle Social Security and Medicare.
I thought it was interesting that both Romney and Ryan emerged from their boss’s office, a battleship, as if to say we are engendering a better war.
They both intend to increase military spending even though our militant imperialism expenditures are more than the rest of the nations combined.
These two are puppets of the warmongers, as are most pols in power today.
I’m voting for Rocky Anderson.
Can’t stomach the same two parties, as usual. Brad is my go-to guy (at least his website is) when telling others that their votes will not be counted legally or accurately. Voting is another illusion of our Lost America.
Thanks, Brad, for your hard stand on the hard-to-swallow truth.
Zap at 3. I can’t seem to find any press that Obama has complained to in the last 72 hours. Two articles about previous comments he made but just from fdl?
I’m not sure that Romney’s comment was a slip of the tongue in the way that we’d normally think of one.
Romney is so presumptuous and arrogant that he may already assume that he won the election this year, and is announcing that Ryan is the “next President” in 2016.
BTW, bradblog will be a vital and essential resource for anyone concerned about the integrity of the vote, especially this year. 2012 is when billionaires will have a bigger influence than ever before. Billionaires are used to getting their way, and small barriers like the Rule of Law mean nothing to them. They probably know already that flipping the vote is doable and relatively easy. Playing by the election rules for them is optional.

Obama’s goal to be the “Post-Racial Democrat who gutted the New Deal” is well documented at quite a few places besides FDL.
This is the New York Times article referred to in the FDL diaries

What he intends to do to SS and Medicare if he is reselected has not been a secret.
Why do you think he just this week floated Erskine “Catfood Commission” Bowles for Treasury post-Geithner?
This is what you vote for if you vote for Obama. He is not a lesser evil.
Grab your popcorn for the VP debate, Ryan will destroy Biden
Presumably the RMoney campaign is relieved that Ryan was referred to as the “next president” rather than the “next vice Fuhrer.”
