If the same standards are applied to Newt Gingrich as have, for years, been applied to the now-defunct ACORN organization by both Republicans and their media arm, Fox “News”, then it seems Newt Gingrich’s campaign has committed thousands of acts of voter fraud.
As CNN and TPM are reporting right now:
Of course, there is no evidence that any vote has ever been fraudulently cast in any election in any state at any time via an improper registration by an ACORN worker. Moreover, virtually every fraudulent registration that came in via an ACORN worker was discovered and reported by ACORN themselves to authorities, since the group had imposed stringent practices to keep workers from defrauding them, which was the case in the few instances where it happened.
Nonetheless, that never stopped the liars and opportunists in the Republican/Fox “News” Party from using such instances to falsely assert that ACORN was committing massive voter fraud.
By those standards then — and here, the Gingrich campaign didn’t even bother to authenticate the signatures, apparently, as ACORN did — the Gingrich campaign is the first out of the block to commit massive voter fraud in the 2012 election.
We’ll hope that the GOP, Fox and their stooges and chumps at places like Andy Brietbart’s “Big” websites will call for the Dept. of Justice to investigate, prosecute and defund the Newt Gingrinch campaign immediately in light of this disturbing news that Gingrich himself is heading up a massive voter fraud organization.
UPDATE 12/30/11: The Rachel Maddow Show picks up on the Newt/ACORN hypocrisy as well, describing the news as an item “from the Department of Shameless Schadenfreude”. Details/video now here…
UPDATE 1/31/12: Whoops. VA officials confirm an official criminal investigation of the Gingrich campaign’s admitted 1,500 acts of petition fraud is underway. Our BRAD BLOG EXCLUSIVE with details is right here…

FTA:
Yes, and the gutless Dems, knowing there was no evidence, caved to the right-wing noise machine, by voting to defund ACORN.
With ACORN out of the way, the GOP, in FL, targeted all non-partisan registration organizations, including the League of Women Voters, and the GOP in state-after-state launched their broad-scale legislative efforts to suppress the vote by polling place photo ID, registration restrictions and reductions on early voting.

Good one, Brad. A shame that there’s a double standard and poor people are treated differently from the oligarchs of the 1%. But then again, if oligarchs were treated like ordinary people, they wouldn’t be oligarchs.
What? You can’t do a quick Google search to fact check your accusation that no ACORN person has ever fraudulently voted?
Matthew Vadum reports in “Subversion Inc.,” at least 54 ACORN employees and individuals associated with ACORN have been convicted of voter fraud… and those were just the ones caught and prosecuted.
Yeah, nice one Brad. In reference to your last paragraph—I won’t hold my breath.
Kenneth, read the article again. Brad says there were no ‘voter fraud’ convictions. The convictions were for voter ‘registration’ fraud. The article just demands equal ‘justice’ for Gingrich. Judged by the same standards 😉
Kenneth @ 4:
Matthew Vadum is a notoriously skilled and deceptive liar who has played you for a sucker. Here’s just one example of the way he lies about ACORN.
Don’t feel bad. You’re not the first one to fall for Vadum’s scam. The voter registration fraud committed by a handful of ACORN’s tens of thousands of workers was exactly the same as that committed by Gingrich’s campaign worker (or workers), except that ACORN detected the fraud and turned it into authorities, whereas Gingrich did not.
ACORN itself was never charged with nor found guilty of voter fraud. And, as I noted in the article, there has never been a single fraudulent vote cast in any election via a fraudulent registration by an ACORN worker. Vadum knows that very well, which is why he needs to lie about the entire thing.
Feel free to demonstrate otherwise. (Though be careful when citing the charlatan Vadum as your “evidence”. He lies about all of this and gets paid well to do so. Check his facts. When you look at what he calls “voter fraud”, you’ll discover his hoax very quickly and realize that he’s played you for a chump.)
Thanks Brad, this same act, someone you hired filed false registration signatures is exactly what Fox news went its about…obviously Newt didn’t want this anymore than acorn wanted bad hires either, but some signature canvassers will cheat, no one is suggesting this is a major stain on gringich, nor should it have been on Acorn. Gringich had it happen for one small signature gathering, in one election, Acorn worked years before many elections nationwide so of course out of thousands of hires over many years they would have more incidences of people committing signature fraud.
@ Ernest – that was what I said when NPR failed to accurately report on Acorn videos, then they got Breibarted
Mr Friedman,
We are immune to your vicious attacks of logic and pitiful pleas for fairness.

I wouldn’t forget the nytimes’s part in all the misdirection and deflection of election fraud for voting fraud, which has now led to voter suppression! On an issue as important as clean elections is, nytimes doesn’t really do its homework or admit when it’s completely wrong for several months on a back page.
@Kenneth,
That should read 54 ACORN contractors who were, subsequently, ratted to the authorities by ACORN themselves.
Damn the facts, full scream ahead….
GOP seeking emergency legislation to change VA ballot qualification requirements and Perry filed a federal lawsuit challenging VA ballot qualification statute.
To Kenneth @4:
I would strongly urge that you read my March 2010 article, The Real Targets of the ACORN Smear Campaigns: Verifiable Truth, American Democracy:
While you’re at it, you might want to peruse Why Matthew Vadum Hates Democracy.
Well, Golly Gee Gosh! It looks like (finally!) we are getting to where we can interactively LOOK at WHO is telling us WHAT, and can then judge their current “information” on the basis of how their other “information” proved out…
…who woulda thought we’d start using such an old tool as, um ACCOUNTABILITY again…
