CNN’s reliable RWer-disguised-as-media-critic Howard Kurtz interviews the former George W. Bush Administration speech writer, David “Axis of Evil” Frum, on his recent, blistering New York magazine condemnation, “When Did the GOP Lose Touch With Reality?” The lengthy, and rather courageous article, blames, in no small part, Fox “News” and talk radio for having destroyed his party through the creation of an entire “alternative knowledge system.” (The piece is a must-read, btw, if you haven’t.)
Good for him! (Frum, not Kurtz. The latter feigns skepticism throughout the interview in the face of Frum’s statements of the obvious-to-all-but-those-who-have-reason-to-act-like-it-isn’t)…
The W gang banger most certainly wrote an exhaustive, insightful, multi-faceted, multi-paged, and courageous piece. Here is an ode to David for falling on his sword.
Too bad CNN couldn’t get a real journalist to interview Frum instead of Howard “Hurricane of Hype†Kurtz.
We must wait until Nov 2102 to see if Frum is correct.
Is Frum’s article courageous because in it he accepts responsibility for his own contribution to GOP’s criminal insanity or because he said what we like hearing?
I’d sooner impale my eyes on horseshoe stakes than read anything written by this growing cadre of untrustworthy, “converted,” right-wing jerk wads who inexplicably survive cynically playing the other side of the street.
Someone(Frum)making sense is refreshing regardless of past nonsenses. But that Howard Kurtz is such a tool! I can’t stand him.
That’s just really rich, coming from a willing liar who helped usher in this era. I don’t think I can bear to read his stuff. Maybe when I’m in a detention center & they give me access to media in 2037, I’ll look back on the good old days when SOME traitors actually, if a little late, came to their senses. Everyone, check out Morris Berman’s work: ‘Twilight of the American (something?)’ I don’t buy from A$a$on anymore due to their maltreatment of temp workers, but they are helpful for looking up the complete works of amazing authors like Berman. I’ve been reading his stuff since ‘Coming to Our Sense’ was published sometime in the 1980s. He’s really an amazing commentator on social movements. Dark vision of the future, but I can’t find much wrong with his reasoning or logic, sadly. I am just an egg…
Occupy says that the democrats and republicans all are for a bill that will allow the president to indefinitely detain Americans without trial on mere suspicion.
Re #6: If ever there was an issue to unite the right and left, this is it. We should take a page from the NRA book and remind our politicians “why do we need new laws, you should enforce the laws already on the books against domestic terrorism and warfare.”
Kurtz sounds like one of the ‘news’ people on the Fox channel. He can’t see the forest for the trees.
No one in the GOTEA right wing wants to listen to a sane GOP member like Frum, and for that the entire Republican party will pay a very high price. Watch what happens after the 2012 elections.
