Rahm Gone. Change Please.

Not to say “we told ya so,” but we did tell ya so, the day after Obama’s election in 2008…

Anyway, now he’s gone. Perhaps this will be the change we can believe in. Though we are not holding our breath.

  1. Hey Brad,
Brazil is having presidential elections tomorrow. They also use electronic voting, but I seem to remember the candidates’ parties are given access to the source code. There is an explanation with images of how the software works (in Portuguese) at

Thought you might find this interesting. I’ve been a fan of your blog for several years.

  2. I guarantee you he is a lot closer to the progressive mindset than Rahm Emmanuel Was…

[Rouse] is also a huge music buff; in 2008, he persuaded the surviving members of the Grateful Dead to reunite and campaign for Mr. Obama.

    For posterity, two related points:

    1) A hand-written thank-you note from Obama on White House stationery thanking the band for their shows in support of his campaign is part of the Grateful Dead Archive.

    2) I happened (weirdly) to be standing next to Bob Weir at a DSCC function on election night 2008 discussing the Archive at the very moment the networks called it for Obama.

  3. Let’s hope so, but keep in mind that Rahm was the son of a terrorist. I sincerely doubt that whoever becomes Obama’s next handler will stray to far from the point of view that must be held in this country, lest ye go the way of JFK, RFK, Malcolm X, or MLK. Sad but true.

  4. Hello Brad,

Regarding the headline of 11/05/2008 1:56PM “Republican-Lite Rahm Emanual Offered Chief-of-Staff in Obama Administration”. I think that he misheard what the position was or he redefined it to “Chief-of-Shaft”. His target was any to the left of him.

  5. On a rainy monday morning you can get shown the light

    “In the strangest of places
If you look at it right”

Who knew this joint was infested in such a kind and groovy way?

    Chuba-chuba, boli-boli

Never had heard of Rouse but me likey that he likey that ol “band beyond description, like Jehova’s favorite choir”

Saw my first show in spring of ’82. Freshman year of college was blessed/lucky to be randomly tossed together w/some kids they dance n shake their bones

now it’s more about the politicians throwin’ stones, but some damn fine memories!

I only saw 38 shows. On many nights the music could be so mind blowing words are superfluous.

But EVERY time, the shake-down street scene(parking lot) was magic. So full of love, joy, anticipation, laughter, music, strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand….that is what I miss the most….especially where you could camp.

Luckily we have the music preserved but those times were a golden road indeed.

  6. I’m with ya Camusrebel. I saw my first show in September ’79 and was smitten immediately. I tend to view the rebellious mindset of the 60’s as an expension and even amplification of the “Successes” of the FDR model progressives. The unprecedented economic expansion brought about by FDR’s progressive legislation led to so much freedom that a whole generation (plus some) was freed up to explore alternatives to the conservative status quo and the mindset of everlasting war and the expansion of the police state. There was *more* of the middle class, and they were better educated and better endowed economically.

Reagan’s entire policy set was a direct push back against that freedom.

I hope you enjoy the video’s I link too, for the most part, they are very well done with Sound board inputs and pretty damn good cameras. Dylan, Dead, and more.

    Enjoy!
