3 Now Dead, 12 Wounded, in Shooting at Gay Youth Center in Israel

What kind of unspoken, tortured, internal conflict will this story cause for the far rightwing, gay-bashing, gun-loving, unquestioning supporters of Israel out there? Tangled webs amidst more tragedy.

Reuters lede…

Israel’s gay community was rocked on Sunday by the killing of two people in a homosexual and lesbian youth center and the possibility they fell victim to a hate crime in the Jewish state’s most freewheeling city.

“The biggest shock is to think that it happened in Tel Aviv, which is the most tolerant city in the country,” said Avi Sofer, a gay rights activist.

Witnesses said a masked gunman clad in black opened fire on Saturday night in a basement club belonging to the Tel Aviv Gay and Lesbian Association, which was hosting a weekly event for teenage gays.

The attacker killed a 26-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl and wounded 13 people before fleeing, hospital officials said.

Pam Spaulding at Houseblend has much more, including a late update detailing the death now of a third shooting victim. Here’s some quick video…

So…no coverage on this blog about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_War earlier in the year, the attacks in which nearly 1500 Palestinians were killed and tens of thousands left homeless, but you have the nerve to run an article about the hate that caused this shooting? So somehow it’s newsworthy that anti-gay bigotry results in the deaths of 3 gay Israelis, but the Israeli bigotry that results in the deaths of nearly 1500 Palestinians isn’t newsworthy. You’re a hypocrite Brad, stop peddling your tired left-right wedge issue garbage please.

There is an awful lot of murder, war crimes, and crimes against humanity going on, brad – something that is virtually never covered here.

So why is this such a big deal and posted today?

If Brad wrote a story about a similar event in say, Dallas, London, Moscow or Tehran, people would readily understand that he is expressing the same type of concern he expressed over the tragic assassination of Dr. Tiller.

Yet, he writes this piece about the killing of gays in Tel Aviv and Brad suddenly becomes a Zionist or an apologist for crimes against Palestinians?

I am beginning to suspect that the synapses inside the brains of some who post comments are failing to connect.

ernie – the arrogance of your attitudes towards others stands out. Thanks for not pretending to be an “expert” on this one and proclaiming that because you are a “REALLY BIG” important lawyer that we should all defer to your opinions.

I won’t stand up for antisemetism and tried to be careful and respectful asking a legitimate question that long-time readers might have:

The wholesale slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent women and children in other regions of the middle east, for example Iraq, get virtually no mention here. So why is this suddenly the salient issue of the day?

An intellectual, you are not. Please save the narcissism and self-grandeur for other venues. You will not fool anyone here – circular reasoning, puffing bogus credentials, and straw man arguments will not sway anyone here and when they are done with with smug and misleading assumptions of genius, they stand out.

Who called Brad ” Zionist or an apologist for crimes against Palestinians” ?

By the way Earn “synapses are specialized junctions through which neurons signal to each other” and they don’t actually “connect”.

With all due respect, Joe, I get the distinct impression that you are one of those individuals who compensates for an inability to apply logic and reason within the context of rational and polite discourse by resorting to emotion and personal invective. How sad!

Mick, comments 1 – 4 & 6 all criticized Brad on an issue (Israel/Palestine) that has absolutely nothing to do with this piece. Brad’s “news” article pertained to a deadly assault on individuals simply because they were homosexuals. The fact that the assault took place in Tel Aviv is fortuitous. Would you have leveled the same critique if the assault had taken place inside a Los Angeles night club?

But, you are quite right, the connection between synapses is neuro-electrical rather than actual. And your point is?

… cann4ing I didn’t criticise Brad and it was you that said “I am beginning to suspect that the synapses inside the brains of some who post comments are failing to connect. “.
    What was your point ?

Hey, folks, Brad is just one person. You expect him to be the lightning rod for every injustice in the world? That said, the very same mainstream-media-supported mentality that dehumanizes Palestinian and allows for their slaughter, would be behind the murder and maiming of people just because their sexual orientation. On your blog, do you cover issues to the same extent as Brad has(if you even have a blog)?
(besides, “St. Brad” has covered those issues)
