Wow, does the dishonesty never end at Fox “News”? Well, we all know the answer to that one, but as Ben Dimiero at Media Matters noted in email, “this is ridiculous, even by Fox News standards”.
In a package with Martha MacCallum on Fox’s Live Desk today, suggesting that Administration officials who once criticized John McCain’s assertion that “the fundamentals of the economy are strong” have now changed their tune, they played some clips purported to be from “recent interviews this weekend.” Included in those clips, is Joe Biden declaring “the fundamentals of the economy are strong.” (Video at bottom of this article.)
Trouble is a) Biden’s statement was six months ago, when he was on the campaign trail and b) it was taken completely out of context, as Biden was quoting McCain’s statement which he was in the process of criticizing!
Biden’s actual in-context statement to a campaign rally in September 2008 was…
Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, I could walk from here to Lansing, and I wouldn’t run into a single person who thought our economy was doing well, unless I ran into John McCain.
Folks, John just doesn’t get it.
And now watch the video to see what Fox did with that statement…
Media Matters’ full coverage, including all of the pertinent transcripts, is here. Wow. That’s impressive. Even for Fox!
UPDATE 3/17/09: Fox issues a rare apology. An actual one, as opposed to a sorta-one, which is more their style when they even deighn to note egregious “errors”. Go figure…
Of course, when they “get something wrong” they don’t usually “admit it”. But I’m glad to see they did this time. What a nice change of pace.
ThinkProgress’s Faiz Shakir notes: “These are the types of mistakes we can expect to arise when a television network is so hungry to make a partisan point…It ended up fabricating the facts to bolster a false right-wing argument. It’s not fair and it’s not balanced.”

Okay, well, yes, but, er, what explains it from Obama?
Wait, Fox showing liberals out of context/ I am astounded!
This from the same network that gives airtime to nut-case Chuck Norris and his Texas secession nonsense.
Great blog, keep up the good work.
I added you to my blog roll and hope my readers will get over here to check you out.

When persons travel around in their community or out in the world, those who get contaminated with infectious contagious germs or conditions — such as leprosy or measles or tuberculosis — get diagnosed and quarantined for the good of public health.
FUX News is a brain-contaminating germ which infects rational minds, (especially children), rots community well-being so disturbing the peace, inflames civil unrest, and worms in brain-damage holes of misinformation. The antisocial FUX News hate is spread through casual contact and conversation.
We can identify Cable TV subscribers (names and addresses published on a sick offenders website?), quarantine them, and get them off of their addiction. The remedial treatment for hate addiction is education, learning, and social engagement.
There oughtta be a law.
Ya know, there really ought to be a law. Even the Rs would agree that lying is unacceptable, but when reality emerges and FUX network is exposed as the slippery sleaze that they are, a real shock is in store for them. I’ve sent letters to the FCC saying that misinformation is destroying democracy, and all I get back is: “We do all we can to make sure profanity is not on the air waves.” Who gives a rat’s ass about profanity, if lying is allowed to run free on the airwaves. Really, there ought to be a petition or something presented to the FCC, demanding an end to the misinformation campaign. Don’t you think?
I’m shocked, shocked, to know there’s gambling going on here.

Oh wait, its Fox? Move along, move along nothing new here folks, keep moving…thats right keep moving.
Isn’t intentional lying in publications, of which television is one type, libel or slander? why don’t more people sue them?
Biden is a plageriser! heck, that guy cant tell the truth no matter what. How many times has he been busted for this? from collage to now? many many times. this guy cant tell the truth.
just look around, when he ran for president he lied and copied kennedys speach.. the same before and after.
