The wingnuts, apparently, are in a bit of a froth about Michelle Obama’s rockin’ cool, official White House portrait. Something about the sleeveless First Lady seems to be driving them batty. Though, admittedly, that’s not a very long drive.
Jill C., over at the always-brilliant Brilliant at Breakfast, rolls up her own sleeves to examine why it is that Michelle may be getting under the skin of the rightwing mommy and MILF fetishists…

I think she might know this one…

peace out.
She looks FAB-U-LUS!!! (and so did Mrs. Kennedy.)
I am surprised though that the right would be so quick to repress her exercise of the Second Amendment; for all they chatter on about it you’d think it was their favorite Amendment.
Well, she looks simply mahvluzh, but in the dead of winter it is a little out there… and the style seems almost like gym chic. I’m thinking of Kathleen Turner in “Serial Mom” murdering a juror who’d acquitted her at her murder trial for wearing white shoes after Labor Day….
Very Republican.
And yes The Right to Bare Arms is Constitutionally guaranteed… year ’round. So no one should bitch.
This guy, http://www.flsenate.gov/Legislators/index.cfm?Members=View+Page&District_Num_Link=021&Submenu=1&Tab=legislators&chamber=Senate&CFID=129465238&CFTOKEN=41440125
hs proposed drug testing people who file unemployment claims. Can we spread this around and possibly spank him before something like this takes hold.
I paid into the system and no one gave a dang if I was stoned or not. And now that I might need to get some back they want to set conditions.
Is this even legal?

[ed note: Being as it is too hard to tell from the Florida Republican’s web page, and we don’t trust anything we hear from FOX without checking, I looked it up and find it’s happening in West Virginia (too)…. –99]
This is just more of Brad Friedman’s shameless Michelle Obama worship. Where is the incisive political commentary in this? Isn’t the picture available in any higher resolution?
Whatever she wears, she’ll be criticized by some on the Right. She looks great, as did Jackie Kennedy. I even like some of what Nancy wore. I’m old enough to have copied some of Jackie’s styles (not the gowns, chuckle) and learned to sew at that time. Sleeveless clothing in winter is not OK only if you are going outside in a cold climate or it’s cold inside where you are, how warm blooded you are, etc. Big deal…
She looks per fab, but why are the curtains shooting out of the top of her head?
It works for me.
Tim Snead asked:
Bigger question that’s occurred to me, since the photo first came out, is why did she choose to have Thomas Jefferson in the background? At least I think that’s TJ back there.
As to Paul McCarthy’s accusation of “just more of Brad Friedman’s shameless Michelle Obama worship” — sheesh. Guess I should have drawn a moustache on the picture first? Whatevs.
Michelle has proven time and time again that she has no sense of style. Her shoulders would have looked better in a normal sleeveless dress – and it’s a ridiculous style anyway for winter, unless she’s a heavy sweater. Only recently did she stop wearing gigantic earrings and loud prints and silly high-waisted dresses that looked too young and had no dignity. Her purple sleeveless cocktail dress worn for the Congress speech looked so out of place. It’s generally better not to be the most dressed-up person in the room. I hope she learns faster that Hillary did – remember the plaid suit and navy stockings parading in the first inauguration? Pure backwoods.

That was a great movie! I liked her defense for murdering her neighbor to the effect ‘she didn’t separate her recyclables’ LOL, I think about that line often as I push my big, mandatory bin to the curb every week 😉

LOLOLOL, Good one. Really, the arms are outstanding. As one of those mature ‘winged’ ladies I am green with envy and stunned by the sexiness of such lovely arms. That’s probably what’s making all those uptight Repub’s so uneasy: not only could she slap them into Virginia but they’d enjoy it. 😉

Maybe to illustrate the saying “The best revenge is living well” or it’s more colloquial counterpart “Payback is… ” well, you get the idea 😉
So people want Michelle to cover her arms because it’s winter. The concern for her health is touching but get a grip. Looks to me like she was inside for the portrait. Anyways, here in Chicago anything above 35* is considered seasonably warm.
“And yes The Right to Bare Arms is Constitutionally guaranteed… year ’round. So no one should bitch.”
You da bomb girl.
Michelle is beautiful what wrong with Peephole ?
She is beautiful. She needs to temper her tough-looking facial expressions a bit, because she doesn’t look so beautiful then, but if you want my real opinion, I think she should have worn a sweatshirt and old jeans… and I think she should boot her husband out of his office and take care of business herself… maybe let him back in after he gets a clue.
hehehehe 99 you bad
She looks great. She is the best looking First Lady since Jackie Kennedy, who also had bare arms in her photo. I am so proud of our First Lady and her family.
my name is jacqulynn michelle penny. i thanked my mom on election night because she may have named me after the two most important first ladies of my life time! i just hope we hear something of Michelle’s accomplishments since coming to the White House instead of her bare arms & hosting of certain chefs, etc. & blah, blah…
I’m glad we have a beautiful First Lady for a change. It must drive the wingnuts over the edge.
I think this is a great photo of our first lady and the fact that she has the confidence and attitude to go along with it is a plus. I know some will say this and some will say that but the bottom line is the same, shes an intelligent and interesting woman who’s fashion sense has been the topic of many news stories, it’s no surprise to me that she chose an outfit like this for her portrait.
