George Bush went out of his way not to use the term “mission accomplished” yesterday when he quietly declared the surge in Iraq to be a success. Bush’s declaration has been ignored by just about everyone, except for Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), who used it as an opportunity to trot out one of the tired-est of the GOP Big Lies: that Saddam Hussein’s government was behind the 9/11 attacks.
First, here’s a bit of Bush’s non-declaration of success mumbo-jumbo:
A significant reason for this sustained progress is the success of the surge. Another is the increasing capability of the Iraqi forces. Iraqi forces now have 192 combat battalions in the fight — and more than 110 of these battalions are taking the lead in combat operations against terrorists and extremists.
A little later, during a press conference held by Lieberman and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to congratulate Dear Leader on his latest triumph, Lieberman said this:
The lie that Saddam was behind the Sept. 11 attacks has been knocked down multiple times, most recently on March 13, when the Pentagon said there was no “no direct link between late Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and the Al-Qaeda network.” (PDF)
It is beyond outrageous that they’re still out there selling this disinformation five years after the invasion.

What do you expect? Joe Lieberman WAS a prominent figure in the so-called “Democratic Leadership Council,” which has been multiply denounced as “Republican Lite.” But also, apparently he has influential connections in the Lansky-Bronfman arm of the organized crime syndicate, which, as the controlling influence and money-source in arizona Politics, is the source of McCain’s war chest, supplying the money behind the gaggle of 527’s that will spend the time between now and November spreading lies and smears against Obama, as well as controlling the hacking of voting machines from coast to coast. Naturally LIEberman would go with his controllers – except I didn’t think even Meyer Lansky would be stupid enough to promote the Iraq/9/11 fiction – unless, of course, he was privy to who actually brought the buildings down, and was trying to increase the fog.
Yes, he is is the “Faux News” of Democrats – hardly credible!
the war in iraq is a strategic step in the war on terror, the battle for democracy in iraq is key in cleaning up the middle east. . . i dont understand why liberals want to let the world go to pot if it is overseas.
I don’t read that Saddam had anything to do with 911 in Lie-berman’s speech. It appears to me that he’s saying that AlQeida was the one whom we attacked and they’re centrally located in Iraq now. I despise him as much as the next democrat but I believe that he meant no malice with his speech.
Republicans: WRONG about Iraq
