Two House Judiciary Members Hint at ‘Consequences’ for Rove if He Doesn’t Answer Subpoena

Is the photo at left beginning to seem less and less absurd?

Looks like we’re headed for an interesting game of chicken next month in the House Judiciary Committee surrounding Rove’s subpoena to appear before it to answer questions in the Don Siegelman affair (and perhaps others) on July 10. RAW has the story worth putting on your radar, with no less than two House Judiciary members hinting that they may be willing to take extra steps (e.g., use of “inherent contempt” to have Rove arrested by the House Sergeant at Arms if need be) should he refuse to testify.

If Rove refuses to appear, says Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, “then we have to take the next step.” And Rep. Sanchez notes, “We really need to set our foot down and show there are consequences to people who laugh in the face of Congressional subpoenas.”

Tea leaves sure, but interesting ones, worth watching. The point is also made that the Committee may continue with this particular investigation, even as a new President takes office. Would be a whole different ballgame under those conditions. Presuming that new President isn’t McCain, in any case. Hmmm…

  1. “If Rove refuses to appear, says Rep. Wasserman-Schultz, “then we have to take the next step.” [Ed. Of making empty threats like we’ve been doing while tossing our subpoena in the recycling bin where all the others have apparently gone.] And Rep. Sanchez notes, “We really need to set our foot down and show there are consequences to people who laugh in the face of Congressional subpoenas.” [Ed. Uh huh. Posturing, threatre and show have been the way of life since 2000 with these people.]

“The point is also made that the Committee may continue with this particular investigation, even as a new President takes office. [Ed. If a new president is allowed to take office that is and I’ll believe it when I see it.] Would be a whole different ballgame under those conditions. Presuming that new President isn’t McCain, in any case. [Ed. Or Mr “Hope/Change” Obama for that matter.]. Hmmm…”

  2. If you happen to be up at 10 am (Eastern) tomorrow, Scott McClellan will be testifying before the judiciary committee concerning the traitors, (Bush’s dad’s words), who outed, covert agent, Valerie Plame’s identity. It will be interesting to see if this is just another diversion using a person deemed to be safe by the administration OR the beginning of the end of this corrupt, treasonous bunch of thugs running our government into the ground.

It will be broadcast on C-Span radio and hopefully on C-Span television.

Scott should have been a hypnotist. He can put anybody to sleep, no matter what he’s talking about, however it’s great just to have this important topic out there. It will be impossible for the “news” organizations to ignore it. Be sure to watch and form your own opinions before the pundits (learned persons) get ahold of it.

  3. Yeah, Could be a different ballgame if somehow the will of the people prevails (i.e., Obama is elected). I have this sinking feeling though, that it’s gonna be 2000 and 2004 all over again, they’re gonna steal it, the media won’t question it, and everyone will slump back into despair 🙁

  4. John “Bushie” McSame doesn’t stand a snow-ball’s chance in hell of winning in November.

It’s going to be a bloodbath, and the neocons are going DOWN, hard.

  5. Seems to me like the Constitution is suspended so all laws including the Freedom of Information Act is null and void so that the Republican Operatives who are running the government including the FBI are free to do what they want. My question is: even though Cheney-Bush is trying to cover for their corporate partners, if all the current laws are rendered null and void, then the public is doom. Did Bush-Cheney break any laws when they coerce these telecom companies to do their bidding? bidding?
