3. Yes, too frequently gruff, I think…. I’ve been meditating on it and it seems to flow in waves. These waves seem to follow the waves of un-Americanism in the information ocean. I went postal on a Nazi calling for my ex, the inestimable Agent 86, yesterday, and it was SO violent that not even a trip to feed the beach squirrels so much as began to calm me down. So I went total Zen after everyone else had gone to bed, and awakened this “morning” to the news that Pat Buchanan, of all people, is speaking something like sensibly!!!!! O.M.G. So, it could be that soon I will be quite recovered from the latest wave. I guess we will see….

20. Brad, I hope you were paying attention to the little civics lesson Rep Davis just gave you. Your question I think was, “why has there been so much hesitance about discussing the 800 lb gorilla (DREs) in Congress?” The answer, of course, is that because the Holt bill has now stalled and won’t be getting out of Rules, there’s no bill to amend on the floor, no opportunity for amendment, and no opportunity for discussion either. So, why did the bill stall? I think we know the answer to that, don’t we?

    I hope everybody noticed that your leading question to Rep Davis–“We’re told that there’s no support in Congress for a DRE ban. Is that True???”–flopped. The fact is, there isn’t anything CLOSE to majority support for such a ban, even if you and the NY Times wish that weren’t so.

    Before you inflict your good intentions upon our fragile election integrity movement, next time why don’t you learn something first about the legislative process?

    I live in Georgia and the election administrators out here are dancing in the aisles over the success of your attack job on HR 811–a bill that would have meant the end of paperless voting in Georgia. You say HR 811 would institutionalize DREs. Speaking here from the trenches in Georgia, I say you’re dead wrong about that.

    Mark, I don’t know why you think a huge portion of the rest of the country’s elections should be put at risk because it might make it better in your state. Seems to me the power movers in Georgia have been darn determined to keep the voters all the way out of it, and even if you get paper back, there’s apt to be trouble. I wish you’d try to broaden your perspective a little bit.

    Well then, if “the end of paperless voting” means you’d have added paper trails to your DREs, then you’re welcome. You’re much better off without them, since it means you’ll likely get a real alternative (paper ballots) much sooner.

    As I’m sure you know, adding VVPATs to DREs doesn’t make you any safer. Just makes you feel that way. Thus slowing up the move to a real solution.
