ROVE RESIGNS EFFECTIVE AUG. 31

Buried in a newly published profile in the Wall St. Journal comes word that Karl Rove is resigning as head of the White House political office effective August 31.

Rove says he is giving up his powerful position in order to spend more time with his family:

“There’s always something that can keep you here, and as much as I’d like to be here, I’ve got to do this for the sake of my family,” Mr. Rove says. His son attends college in San Antonio, and he and his wife, Darby, plan to spend much of their time at their home in nearby Ingram, in the Texas Hill Country.

Rove insists his exit has nothing to do with the multitude of investigations into suspicious Bush administration activities that all seem to lead to his doorstep:

“[I’m] not going to stay or leave based on whether it pleases the mob.” He also knows he’ll continue to be a target, even from afar, since belief in his influence over every Administration decision has become, well, faith-based.

As to the timing of his departure, Rove offers a bit of his signature plausible implausibility. He says his decision now was prompted by a demand from White House chief of staff Josh Bolten that staffers who stay on past the summer break must commit to serving Bush through the end of his term. That may sound reasonable on the surface but in fact the idea that Bolten could tell Rove when to come and go is not credible.

Whatever his excuse, Rove’s departure will increase speculation that investigators are closing in him over his role in the illegal firing of U.S. attorneys for political purposes, vote caging schemes by the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign, which he directed, or other as-yet unrevealed activities.

  1. possibilities :

o – A change in office location. ie donald rumsfuckup

o – The price to keep impeachment off the table (pelopussy) has gone up.

o – This is going to divert something bigger off the cm$m this week.

o – Get some distance from adolf to rig the 2008 erlection.

o – All or combination of the above. . .

  2. I’m sure KKKarl has his well-trained boys on the job in the White House; so plenty of lying-cheatin’-theivin’-assholein’ yet to come from the Administration.

And as a bonus, KKKarl gets outta the spotlight to concentrate on rigging the ’08 election! Perhaps he feels that he failed in his ’06 rig (they rigged at 4% on October 1st and needed 8% – thanks to a Pub Congressman playing with boy pages and a Pub preacher doing some gay play – by November… Somebody get us the link…) and so lost the Congress. Now he’ll have room to win all three branches back.
Y’all all know we gotta work harder than ever now.
Anybody for a little civil disobedience?

    shw

  3. It’s nice to see most don’t buy the “quit to spend time with the family” b.s. I truly feel he’s more dangerous now!

  4. Anybody having trouble uploading the BradBlog site like I am having? Nearly every frigg’n time I go to the BradBlog site, it loads only the top banner and nuth’n else. Drives me nuts. I’ve deleted my cookies, tossed out my Oreos, given away my home-made chocolate cookies and still no BradBlog news, just the top banner. Sheesh.

I was able to come in the back door by searching Google, clicking on an old article, then refreshing it to the main page–this is the only way that I’m able to get anything beyond the top banner of BradBlog.

    WTF?

  5. Marcy Wheeler over at The Next Hurrah has some speculation on the real reasons Rove resigned – OSC investigation, Abramoff investigation, and/or firing of David Iglesias/vote caging scandal getting close to indicting him (oh please oh please oh please) And let’s not forget the Don Seigelman mess down in Alabama – rumor is that new evidence has turned up that places Rove in the middle of it.

However, he may just be resigning to work behind the scenes. After all, they’ve got an election to rig, that takes a lot of time and energy! Especially since a lot of their tricks have already been discovered and are now being watched.

Mozart – Just out of curiosity, what browser are you using? And do you have dialup or ..?

I was having the same trouble until I checked my download speed at http://pcpitstop.com/internet/Bandwidth.asp. Short version is that I wound up switching from cable to DSL because my download speed was actually FASTER that way (Odd, I know, but that’s the way it works out here in the sticks)

You also might check to see if you have an ad blocker thingie goin on. I had to disable an add-on for firefox because it wouldn’t let me load certain websites (can’t remember if this was one or not)

  6. Mozart-
It’s Karl for sure. He hates BradBlog, homemade cookies and google pie. Think long and hard before you pick on the chubby nerds at school, kids. They might just grow up to be a p(r)esident’s adviser.

    COULDN’T PUT IT ANY BETTER!!!!!!!!!

    EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!

    This is totally meaningless.

  8. I think Rove wants to have the same protection as others who refuse to testify before Congress because they no longer work in the White House. COngress doesn’t care enough to go get them, so he’s happy to take the opportunity to walk out. And, he is also planning (I think) to help the next Republican prepare for the Presidency. I predicted some time ago that would be Fred Thompson and he still might if Thompson can hold together long enough to get in the race. Thompson is supported by Tim Griffin (Former Rove aid and US Attorney, friend of Sara Taylor and Monica Goodling). He may also be planning to reinstate Jeb Bush’s credibility, a matter of years, but time enough to pay for his boy’s college education.

  9. Karl Rove’s expertise lies in getting people elected. He is extremely very good at it when you consider the type of people (normally they would be considered losers, in the raw sense of the word) he’s able to help. Never mind that his tactics are usually of the very effective — and very dirty. (like the Swift Boat Veterans group during the Kerry run for pres). I’ll bet that he will be working for someone bent on destroying Hillary Clinton, the most likely nominee on the Democratic ticket. Rove’s relocation to Texas frees him to continue his work for a broader number of candidates with less oversight. He will be subject to fewer regulations when not on the government payroll in taxpayer-provided offices. Rove has already started on the smearing of Clinton’s campaign. (From what I’m reading and hearing from many people if all goes well Hillary will be the next president of the United States.) And he has his protégé, the US Attorney for Little Rock, AK, (Hillary’s former turf) in place to possibly help.

  10. I would like to personally thank Karl Rove for engineering the Democratic landslide of 2006.

Thank you, Karl! No doubt about it–the man’s a genius.

  11. Another one bites the dust, and this one is no small fry. As someone suggested earlier, I’m wondering if this is the result of some behind-the-scenes negotiations between Dems and Reps. Regardless of the motivation, we must now ask ourselves an important question:

Is a Bush without its “Brain” less of a threat to America, or more?

  12. At the very least, all eyes are on Rove. Maybe they should stay like that till he goes to jail and becomes someones special friend

I got the same prob. Sometimes I can sneak in a back way like you do, others I just give up and come back later.
I’m no techno knowledgeable kinda guy, and so don’t know what to think or what to do…
Usually works out sooner or later…
Are you on Brad’s email list? I think I got more situations like this when I got on his list than before…

    shw

    You wondered:

Is a Bush without its “Brain” less of a threat to America, or more?

Good question. I think mom and pop bushie got a new babysitter for lil bush before they fired this one. They have never picked a good one yet 🙂 , so don’t get your hopes up.

  15. Right. It will also be interesting to see what job Karl lands after resigning “to spend more time with family.” His leaving the White House doesn’t exactly mean he is leaving his well-established circle of influence & power.
