ES&S seems to have complied with the demand from the California SoS’s office that they provide their source code as part of the state’s “Top-to-Bottom Review†of all voting systems used in the state. I say “seems to†because ES&S delivered source code but would not let the state have the code that is sitting in escrow, per state law, for exactly the purpose of a review of their voting system. This is a growing story with a lot of unanswered questions. Also, is it not enough that we have given a few corporations too much involvement in our voting process (with more to come if S-1487 is signed into law)? Now Salt Lake Co. Utah is actually discussing allowing companies to advertise at the polls in exchange for providing a minimum of five uniform dressed “volunteers†as poll workers. I can see it now, a banner running across the DRE screen announcing, “Today’s election is brought to you by WalMart

RE “New Diebold Election Systems Software to be previewed,etc.”;
From the press release: “Assure election system software is expected to receive Election Assistance Commission (EAC) federal testing approval late this summer.”
Yes, this is a press release but in this case -when talking about EAC ‘federal testing approval’- ‘is expected’ certainly raises questions- again- about the relationships between the ‘testing authorities’ and the vendors.
Why not? The EAC has certainly never given Diebold the slightest reason to doubt that the commisioners will come through for the corporations yet again.
After all… just how many EAC staff are ex-EVM corporation employees at the moment?… and they’re future EVM corporation employees too, of course…
Ahh… for those halcyon days when the Diebold corporate web shills would forswear themselves black and blue that “Diebold was really getting out of the election business any second now so would people please stop criticizing the corporation on the web?…”
The olde blame the EAC canard has been proven flawed since 1964, flawed since 1988, and really Maytag Repairman flawed again.
Deja vu all over again.
Get over it. The only truly reliable system that will never fail is to just have faith. Faith in the machines, faith in the election officials, and faith in the history of the movement. 😉 Keep the faith, baby, and just believe. 🙂
It is an American election system after all, and just saying that purifies it to true patriots … doesn’t it?
… Dredd sedd…
“The olde blame the EAC canard has been proven flawed…”
Dredd, do you have a problem with holding the EAC accountable for their own misdeeds and screwups?
