The Republican Spin-And-Noise Machine has shifted into high gear since Tuesday’s Democratic Senatorial Primary in Connecticut, where the moderately anti-war Ned Lamont defeated the rabidly pro-war and pro-Bush “Democrat”, Joe Lieberman, in a very close race.
What does this mean? Has the Democratic party eaten itself? Or has it been torn in half? Is this a victory for the liberal bloggers? Or a defeat for the pro-Israeli lobby? Is it a repudiation of everything the Bush administration has ever done or said? Or maybe … just maybe … did the Democrats of Connecticut look at the two candidates and decide they liked one just a bit more than the other?
If you listened to the words coming out of Republican mouths lately, you’d never even imagine that the result of the primary could possibly have been a reflection of the wishes of the voters:

What has created a power vacuum in Iraq?
What has encouraged terrorists not only in Iraq but throughout the region and throughout the world?
What has created a failed state — with a civil war raging — in the heart of the Middle East?
What has inflicted incredible damage on America’s security?
Is it not yet clear that all these things have already happened — and that they were all caused by the same event?
This whole charade reminds me of the Aesop’s fable Androcles and the Lion. Do you remember that one? The lion gets a thorn in his paw and he can’t remove it by himself. The wound becomes infected and the infection begins to fester. The lion’s paw gets more and more painful, swollen, bloody, hideous.
And what happens next? Does Androcles come along and say “We have to stay the course. We have to leave that thorn in your paw until the infection goes away and your paw is healthy again”? Does he say “We need to put more thorns in your paw! We need to bring some of our allies here and get them to put more thorns in your paw, too”?
Of course not! Androcles removes the thorn from the Lion’s paw, and in the end this act of mercy — and common sense — saves Androcles’ life.
It would only take a little common sense to realize that Iraq is the lion’s paw and our troops are the thorn. But we won’t be seeing any common sense from the Republicans anytime soon. No mercy either, unless I miss my guess.

Other Democrats, like Ohio’s Sherrod Brown, are blasted for putting “far left politics on display in abandonment of Joe Lieberman.”
“Fringe candidate”?? “Far left” politics?? They must be kidding!
They’re not? Well then, they must be lying!!
What is Lamont’s position on the War in Iraq? What is his position on the War in Afghanistan? What is his position on the War on Terror?
A true far-leftist would say that all these wars are illegitimate, that they are based on false-flag attacks and outright lies, that they were fabricated on flimsy and hopelessly transparent pretexts, and that their ultimate purpose is to further enrich the wealthiest segment of mankind — at the expense of everyone else. And that’s just for starters.
Is Lamont saying all of that? Is he saying any of it?
Of course not! Listen: There is no far left in American politics today, and there hasn’t been one for a long time. But the Republican smear-meisters won’t let that stop them:

They say they are convinced they have the key players in custody, but a wider investigation is only just beginning.
Peter Clarke, the head of Scotland Yard’s anti-terrorist branch, said the network involved was large and global.
And US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the plot was “in some respects suggestive of al-Qaeda”.
“Large and global”? “Suggestive of al-Qaeda”? Of course it was! Isn’t it always? How extremely convenient!

Good job of laying it out. By nature I’m combative and when provoked, confrontational. It’s hard to change but I do work on it. In respect to the Repub Sound Mach. I’m about ready to endorse a response policy that would just simply ignore the pukes. With the way the MSM always spins the message to the right……….? Yeah, keep raising hell and do whatever to get our message out but just ignore the outrageous rebuttals. On Democracy NOW! just now, they reported that Karl Rove offered Lieberman “help”. So, doesn’t that mean we were right, to back LaMont? And doesn’t that mean we were right, that Lieberman was too close to the White House?
Also, the Republican Noise Machine is useless, without the complicit mainstream media being their unchallenging megaphone. Thus, proving the MSM is also Republican-controlled.

Let’s all give ourselves a pat on the back, and investigate how the vote was so much closer than the pre-election polls stated…ALWAYS, that is the case, and ALWAYS against the Dem vs. Rep or the Liberal Dem vs. a Conservative Dem…ALWAYS…therefore, not RANDOM!!! When something happens a certain way ALL THE TIME, it’s not random.

The MSM will say, “Johnson beat McKinney in the runoff.” WTF? They don’t mention the vote totals between the primary vs. the runoff??? Why? Because EVERYONE would say, “Huh???”

The only reason we are safe today is Britain is truly fighting terrorism. The twig is trying to claim victory on the coat tails of Scotland Yard. The latest “bomb threat” is a Cheney/Rove plot to get the Lieberman loss out of the MSM. They knew about this for months. The “cell” was not ready to do anything but now we can’t carry toothpaste. How does this prove that we need to fight “terrorists” in Iraq?
Lieberman was a big name that went down. McKinny was a little name that went down. I grieve for the democratic party that has been so mean and dismissive to a true progressive. When black people were on their roof tops and attics after Katrina, I called a lot of liberal lawmakers offices in D.C. The only staff that seemed to care was McKinny’s. The theft of the primary vote in her district is somehow o.k. for way too many so called progressives.She had 1,000 people at the polls in the last election to make sure the starting vote was 0. Ga. passed a law that made it illegal for her people to do that in this election. If it weren’t for this I would be a lot happier about Lamont’s victory.
Molly, McKinney is a big patriot who went down, and Lieberman was a little patriot who went down. Who knows? Maybe the big patriots will win in the end.

They’re causing panic (what’s new) about liquids you carry on the planes… they still don’t check but 10% of the cargo. Countdown reported this, but I’de already heard it. Wonder if the terrorists know it too? And why are all these FOILED PLOTS concerning planes? Why aren’t any involving the ports ? You know the places where only 4% of the containers are checked! But the $6.50 per is just too costly. And time consuming, 11 seconds for each one. And why aren’t the Dems screaming about this themselves ?

While having optical scan voting machines is better than pure electronic voting for security and auditability – it’s still possible to hand-count the ballots – it’s apparent that the machine selected by the State of Connecticut can be manipulated to provide inaccurate results. Specifically, the memory card in the Diebold AccuVoteOS can be replaced by a malicious person with a card of their own and nobody would be the wiser. Vote tallies could be replaced altogether, or, alternatively, cards could be pre-loaded with totals such that additional votes could be added to pre-set values that would guarantee desired results. Machines do what they’re told to do. I am concerned that there are people with vested interests in the outcomes of elections that would like to have machines do what THEY would like them to do rather than what the VOTERS would like them to do. I urge Wesporters to consider how these machines are going to be used and to review the history of Diebold. I find it interesting that the AP wire story on the State of Connecticut’s selection mentions “a Massachusetts company” as the source of the voting machines:

Is the State of Connecticut trying to avoid the use of the Diebold name, knowing the significant controversy surrounding its products?
I am glad that the Verified Voting Foundation has helped to ensure that there will be at least a paper trail for verifying votes, but if the electronics of these machines are maniupated and votes are not verified then the equipment in use can allow elections to be stolen easily. Let’s make sure that this is not the end of our vigilence as voters on this matter.
