SD Union-Tribune Publishes Letters Responding to their Horrendous, Irresponsible, Incorrect Busby/Bilbray Editorial…

Share article:

Four great letters to the Union-Tribune editor, as published today in reply to their horrendous, irresponsible, factually incorrect and unsigned editorial posted a few days ago (which Emily Levy angrily and adeptly blogged about here a few days ago.)

One of the letters published comes from San Diego County Democractic Party Chair, Jess Durfee, who the original editorial smugly referred to as “the local Democratic Party boss.” Biased much, Union-Tribune?

Want an extra laugh? This rightwing rag has been calling themselves a “watchdog” for the people in a series of recent TV ads. No, seriously. That’s what they tell people. As laughable: Their published Mission Statement says: “Journalistic excellence is our commitment to readers. Above all, integrity.” Apparently, they were just kidding.

The editorial ends saying, referring to punch-cards in Florida,
“Now that was a pall over electoral integrity. Give us electronic voting and its safeguards any day.”

I find that quite ironic, since these machines can be hacked “any day”: You don’t have to look far on the web to learn exactly how:

    http://www.equalccw.com/dieboldtestnotes.html

Admittedly, the problems described there concern the previous generation of electronic voting machines. But the newest machines are even easier to hack.

    http://www.bbvdocs.org/reports/...unredacted.pdf

And “its safeguards”???? That’s a laugh. The 2004 elections in Alaska were run entirely on Diebold machines. And there is a 100-thousand vote discrepancy between the county-level and state-level results. If electronic voting is so safe, then why have Republican Election officials in Alaska refused (illegally) to make the 2004 election records public, forcing the Alaska Dems to sue over it? At first they said the information was proprietary to Diebold. Then they said it would harm security for the Diebold machines. Then Diebold said it was ok with them to release the records so now the State says they just don’t have time because they’re too busy getting these same machines ready to (mis)count another election in 2006…

The editorial IMHO is so twisted and so seemingly ignorant of well established, easily discovered information that it just HAS to be deliberately misleading–it’s propaganda, pure and simple. Whoever wrote it never bothered to spend even five minutes checking out the credibility of the arguments made by those saying the election results should not be trusted.

    But that’s not so surprising–

Note the big AD on the left side of the website editorial page, about halfway down –you’ll have to scroll the page down. It announces “This community is protected” and has a BLACK person in silhouette, with a white tie and dollar-bills stuffed in his shirt pocket, with a big red diagonal slash through it. I guess the message is that they’re working to make sure that well dressed black people with money don’t get anywhere near this community? or what??? (as in WTF???) Now, of course the whole *image* is black and white, but the head of the person also just looks like an African American male silhouette, especially with the white eyes. It’s very creepy and subtly racist. Is it accidental? Not really. More like just barely subtle enough that thew can’t be successfully sued over it.

So there’s an impartial source of information for you. A real watchdog–yes.

So long as you’re the Reicht kind of person.

    John,

Outstanding analysis. Would you consider writing for our blog at http://www.ElectionDefenseAlliance.org? I would like to post a version of this current post there at this address:

    http://www.electiondefensealliance.org/blog/eda

This invitation goes for many of you outstanding Bradbloggers. The idea is to take some of your best comments and get them “out there” even further. I want to promote BradBlog and get more people coming here, so the idea is to use some of these great posts, linking back to BB of course, to bring in more traffic. Wish I could stay and be a regular BB’er but the colors are too oppressive. There are many readers who can’t stay long in this dark room, as much as I love Brad and cheer all of your posts. It’s just too hard on the eyes. (Yes I’ve tried the “print version” but it doesn’t include the comments, so one can’t get the full thread, just the original post.)

Cheers everyone — go back to diverting, Brad!

    Ginny

    Ginny-

On my toolbar I can click on “View” then scroll to “Page Style” then choose/click on “No Style” (as opposed to “Basic Page Style”). By choosing “No Style” I get black type on a white background with links in blue and all the comments are there (although displaced further down the page). You definitely come into the light if you are bothered by the dark and are able to do that.

    Hi Ginny,

Thanks for the compliment. It’s was a long migrainy day where I didn’t want to move and so the “dark” look here worked for me, and now I get a nice compliment for something I started writing mostly because I wanted to find a way to sneak in a reference to the Alaska story, which once again, is in danger of falling off the collection of ‘current’ stories here (hint hint). Or at least that’s partially true. It’s maybe more true that I read the editorial and my eyes just bugged out and I had to comment. I sort of doubted that the San Diego UT would have posted my comment as a 5th letter. They got pretty badly beaten up by the four comments that they did get.

Ginny, as to what you do with what I wrote above, I don’t have a problem with that so long as you point people back here to the original posting, and I see from the other things at EDA that’s how you do it. It’s still a partially free country, so I guess you can do whatever you want until they come for you. Thanks for letting me know you’re thinking of doing that. And I will consider posting at EDA certainly though I have to tell you that I’m feeling pretty loyal to helping Brad here right now becuase of all the incredible work he’s doing and the sense of community there is here, just because of all the worthy comments.

    HI BRAD,

If you’re reading this, Brad, welcome back, but I think you should not be here, dude. Too soon. August is coming up, and nothing major EVER happens in August. Shoo!!! Go Away!!! 🙂 Don’t come back until you’ve gained 5 pounds by eating sweet corn, fried fish you caught yourself, and lots of fresh blueberry pie from some diner that specializes in that. We love you and need you and want you healthy and rested. Or if you must check in here, I hope it’s from some wireless link from some place by a lake somewhere, for a few hours a day when you have to hide from the sun anyway. Relax as much as you can now.

…more corporate-controlled propoganda. Republican voters better join us, because they are being disenfranchised, too. They will not be getting what they want, either. The point isn’t that Republicans are stealing elections, it’s that politicians are being controlled by a few shady people, and believe me, they don’t have Republican voters interests, either…or they will soon screw them, too, and just get people in office for their own purposes, which won’t be for Republican voters’ needs, either. Of course, they will be called “Republican” in name only…making them “feel good”…these guys aren’t really true Republicans. Look what’s going on!!!

… very easy to follow the line of ‘descent’ for who’s in charge in that town -SD- and how they pass it along the next generation .. you can also think of Groton, Ct and Portsmouth et al. The govt. is very strong in these towns were the army/navy/airforce are located and they -the local head/general/admiral of the “camps/barracks/base etc” do run the ‘smaller’ local govts who only want to become bigger crooks … It is a natural evolution in politics even for a lowly mayor or schoolboard commissioner who aspire at ‘grander’ theft …euh I mean office.

There is but only one thing any society can do -no second or third option here- ONLY ONE and it is to curtail the/all human elements in the ‘equation’.

Surely you can not trust a single human -not even I- there IS a way to curb said humans and it is an easy one at that!

We MUST have a TRUTH machine … euh but you say they do not work blah blah blah … well shitheads, make one THAT WORKS!!

For a few $billion$ such a machine will/would save TRILLIONS and make society better no IFS,ANDS,or BUTS about it .. it is a scientific fact and you should hit your head with a hammer for not promoting it more!
