Republican Pete Hoekstra is Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. He was one of the first to oppose the appointment of General Hayden as CIA Director during last Sunday’s edition of Fox News Sunday.
This morning, Hoekstra continued to express stern opposition to Hayden’s appointment in this interview from NBC’s Today Show.

In an interview on MSNBC’s Countdown, Howard Fineman says that the White House is welcoming a fight over Bush’s Warrantless Domestic Spying programs during General Hayden’s confirmation.
Karl Rove believes that the Democrats can be made to look weak on National Security if they continue to express concerns over the legality of their so-called “Terrorist Surveillance Program.”

On January 26, we posted this video of a press conference with General Michael Hayden at the National Press Club. Hayden was there to kick off a PR blitz defending the NSA’s warrantless domestic surveillance program(s).
General Hayden has been the leading defender of illegal spying. He showed no reluctance in stepping into the role of political operative for the Bush Administration. As CIA Director, we can expect him to stifle Congressional oversight and further the consolidation of Executive power.

Just wondering though – when do they start the parades with all the shiney knee high boots and tanks and flags and missiles through our streets?

Karl Rove must be DELIGHTED with Feinstein. This damnable war-profiteer woman has far more power than any of us and look how she continually helps Bush! Yet, other than one person, I don’t see any of you criticizing her throughout this blog.

I can’t help but think about all the movies they showed us in grade school during the 50’s. All the McCarthyism stuff. The A-bombs going off, "duck and cover" etc. We were even so scared that a rumor went thru the school that during our monthly air raid drill, airplanes were going to fly over and drop sand bags on the school to simulate bombs.
I had nightmares of solders coming down the street and hearding us out of our houses, telling us to take one cherished item per person then shooting missiles into our houses.
I watched 1984 and Fahrenheit 451.
I couldn’t understand how any government could do things like that.
My friends and I thought that one of our neighbors was a Russian spy – they had a robot which spied on us from the second story window when we were out playing at night.

I don’t know a whole lot about Diane, but I’ll admit I don’t like the looks of this. I’ve been suspicious of her ever since I learned of her husbands links to the MIC about a year ago.
As you know, I’m a big supporter of Howard Dean, but I do remember him saying he thought Bush should focus more on Iran a while back. I don’t think he was talking about nukes though.
A note to General Michael (I’ll decide what the fourth amendment says) Hayden. Just remember what happened to Hitler when he decided to attack his own country!

The financial structure of the USA is in the process of collapse. The dollar is falling, while gold and silver are going virtually straight up. Against ALL currencies, which is a bad sign for fiat money.
So, let’s say the neocons do succeed with an overt coup, putting the intelligence apparatus under the military, and CANCELLING the 2006 elections. The coup will be re-couped by other generals. Hayden and all the other military supporters of Bushco will be displaced.
Study history. I have little doubt that we are headed for a military takeover, but I feel certain that Bush won’t control it. Mark this: THE BUSHES WILL BE FLEEING THE COUNTRY IN A YEAR OR SO.

This is going to get incredibly ugly. It’s not the politics–that’s just the surface. The only way to really understand events is through the elemental financial/economic dynamics. The dollar, like all other fiat monies (the euro, the yen, the yuan) are being abandoned AT THIS MOMENT.
It’s almost too late to prepare for what’s about to happen. Cash in your dollars, your real estate investments, and your bonds, your pension payouts, before exits are mobbed by everybody trying to get out at once. Put your savings into gold and silver, buy a gun, get out of the cities…

Cumulatively, we’ve had the National Security State imposed on us via the "war on this, that, or the other" increments with staged and/or exploited reasons which are hidden behind the bible, the flag, and the supposed safety of children. It didn’t happen overnight, too many would recognize the threat despite the 24/7 "news" propaganda effort.
Since the Bush machine’s coup, which in my estimation may or may not have involved more than a little "help" from some of those within the opposing name-brand party, what we’re seeing is the exclamation mark of what the powers that be have strived toward for some time, primarily the last three decades …made all the more disturbing by the right’s courting of the "end time" fundamentalist crowd who want to manufacture a "holy war" to ensure the Second Coming, and the subsequent Christian Republic. It amazes me how so few people have any idea of just how psychotic and dangerous this "faith based initiative" truly is.
You’re older than me, but I’m familiar with the early propaganda films regarding the nuclear arms race. It’s surreal seeing crowds of people watching bomb detonations with their sunglasses on, watching what will eventually wipe out huge portions of the earth’s population, if not our entire race, and doing so as "entertainment." I was sent to Catholic elementary schools in the 80s, and in junior high theology class, they had us watch The Day After, and Threads. Scared the hell outta everyone ..but I can remember naively thinking in the 90s that the species had become more attuned with conscience, and that the likelihood of such horrible fate was diminishing …. ha, nope, guess not. Gotta keep that imperial War Machine crankin’, with taxpayers subsidizing the high end military technology. Talk about getting what you paid for, and then some…

In college we put together a movie showing at the local theater. The first movie was Dr. Strangelove which had the crowd howling in laughter. The second movie was The War Game. A BBC TV docu-drama about a nuclear attack on Britain which had been banned from being shown on TV. The crowd left totaly silent and pale.

Why haven’t you been ranking on Zell Miller?
Feinstein will be a member of the committee, not the chair, when the dems are given the House and the Senate.
The dems on her committee will have the majority vote, which will be more than 1 more than the republicans will have. That is the way it has worked since circa 1859.
So she can side with whomever she wants, it won’t effect the final verdict on the committee.
Then take her out in ’08, but not in ’06 (unless there is a solid dem candidate to replace her). People are not going to respect folks who have shot themselves in the foot. As the dems will have done if they turn on themselves now and remain the minority party in November, leaving the republican dictatorship intact.
Look at the US in the world polls after being led by the republican dictatorship for a short time for a prime example of shooting oneself in the foot.
Dems would be ill advised to follow that path. So your advocacy is something KKKarl Rove is more in favor of than Howard Dean is.
Not sure how democrats will look weak by showing some back bone, but heh I’m one of the few thinking american citizens left – definately not representative of the average.
I think that the house of cards if falling so Hayden probably won’t be there long if he is ushered in. Somone’s got to realize sooner or later that most everyone on the scene right now is a criminal on a bad day and a completely ethically challenged on a good one……

i can’t speak for josh but you suggested to him that feinstein be taken out in ’08 and not in ’06.
how is feinstein going to be taken out in ’08 when she won’t be up for re-election in ’08?
don’t you know that US Senators serve for terms of six years each; the terms are staggered so that approximately one-third of the Senate seats are up for election every two years?
if feinstein wins in november her senate term won’t be up until 2014. yes that’s 2014. if people want her out it’s either in ’06 or wait six long years and endure even more damage from her as one of bush’s big helpers.
i’m surprised you don’t know something this basis (us senate terms) considering how much of a political authority and expert you try to come off as.
