…
Bush’s fall is being fueled by erosion among support from conservatives and Republicans. In the poll, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approved of the job he is doing. Both are record lows among those groups.
Moderates gave him an approval rating of 28%, liberals of 7%.
“You hear people say he has a hard core that will never desert him, and that has been the case for most of the administration,” says Charles Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin who studies presidential approval ratings. “But for the last few months, we started to see that hard core seriously erode in support.”
(NOTE FROM BRAD: Playing serious catch-up on a number of stories, related-but-off-blog commitments and several crushing deadlines. Was gone the entire day yesterday interviewing someone on camera. Very interesting. More on that, and a bunch of other items as I can get caught up later today, tonight, and for the rest of the week as things are breaking and I do my best to keep up with all of it. Hopefully David and John will be able to jump into the breach where available here and as I continue to scramble to get caught up throughout the week. Begging your indulgence and patience over the next few days where coverage might be quicker or leaner than normal in the bargain…and as necessary.)

You said or quoted "You hear people say he has a hard core that will never desert him, and that has been the case for most of the administration," says Charles Franklin, a political scientist at the University of Wisconsin who studies presidential approval ratings. "But for the last few months, we started to see that hard core seriously erode in support."
The reason is that you can only put so much shit in kool aid and still call it kool aid.
Again I ask …. Why aren’t Republicans Impeaching Bush & company ?!
It’s all too obvious that Treasonous Republicans will always put their party above their country !
I confess the Democrats piss me off too ! they are saying if they take over the Senate & Congress they will not Impeach WTF ?! at 31 % it’s obvious Americans are fed up and want Immediate Change !
The shame is, he’d still win re-election today, as would his Congress; unless we can change the voting systems. Calling all hackers…

Daily Kos Will Ban U #2
Uh … easy answer …
When the republican dictatorship planned all this they decided that they needed The Dick to be the backup of The Dunce.
That is, if we impeach The Dunce The Dick will take over. Republicans do not like to be reamed hard, cause the right reverend among them are church people.
If you have any more questions, and are confused about this, call Snottie or Jeffie for a good time.
Well, let’s see what the "October Surprise" will be this time. Take the poll: Poll: What’s the ’06 "October Surprise"
Pran
Dredd ,
What juvenile answer –
and an ignorant one at that !
Republican’s are going to loser their jobs ( I’m not being sympathetic ) these are much more serious crimes than Nixxon or Bill Clinton getting a bj .
If the Scroteless democrats keep saying they won’t impeach bush cheney. . . . . they may not get the house back. . .
You-know-who says he is on a mission from God, he isn’t concerned with ratings!!!
Sorry, for off topic, but has anyone seen the letter from the leader of Iran to bush?? It kind of sounds like they want to play nice.
On a somewhat related note, THE EMPEROR HAS NO TEETH: [ link ]
Daily Kos will Ban U #6
They have not banned me. Neither has this blog.
You would "ban me" because I laugh at your "question" why won’t republicans impeach republicans. Go get banned somewhere else dork.
Do not be mislead
Bush will not stop until he has beat the republican congress.
HE WILL KICK CONGRESS’S ASS AND HE WILL TAKE THE ALL TIME TROPHY OF LOWEST IN THE POLLS
So eat nuculuar shit congress!!!
The jig is up ..it’s so obvious, so how can so many remain oblivious? Vast institutional corruption and treason across a broad spectrum – the Christofascists were placed into power and have retained their power for no other reason than a big enough percentage of those who comprise various levels of the corporate/state nexus WANT them to be there, and clearly want them there irrespective of every lie, atrocity and scandal.
The phony uber-pussy "opposition" democratic party’s unwillingness to stand up to the Bush junta and/or capitalize on any number of illegalities makes just about as much sense as claiming that Bushco largely gets its way despite its so-called "incompetency." They either won’t because they need to demonstrate their ass-kissing "moderate" chops, or many of them are simply "in on it," divide and rule, all staged with a pre-determined outcome.
Those poll numbers could drop to single digits, and come Nov it won’t matter one iota: the corporations that own our press will spin-spin-spin, and despite the daily unfolding horrors, the right will retain a majority, and all of the brainwashed dolts in this country will still slavishly cling to fairytale notions of What’s Happening In Amerika, and just sit there like the obedient chumps they are, right up to the point we all go out in a blinding white "holy war" flash.
Dredd ,
Fellow Republicans Impeached Nixon and Nixon looks like an altar boy next to Bush & co.
The DailyKos thing is your "Obvious " Problem w/ me .
" Dork " ? How Juvenile ! GROW UP –
It’s remarkable to consider how low 31% is, when we have troops in the field (as distinct from being at war, which we aren’t, because it hasn’t been declared).
Typically even a weak president will garner 20% approval from partisan diehards, another 10% or so from people in government, the military, or defense contracting (because he’s commander in chief), and maybe another 10% from single-issue zealots who agree with him on one issue, e.g. abortion, tax cuts, immigration. That’s an easy 40% right there.
Yeah, he’s lost it. And if Rove is indicted, as seems likely, who will get it back for him?
Hello Daily Kos…
Regarding you comment #2, you wrote:
"I confess the Democrats piss me off too ! they are saying if they take over the Senate & Congress they will not Impeach WTF ?! at 31 % it’s obvious Americans are fed up and want Immediate Change!"
Did you mean to say "Senate & Congress?" Or did you mean to say Senate & House? I ask because the Senate is PART OF the Congress. The Congress is comprised of two bodies: The House and The Senate. Your statement implies the Senate is a separate body. It is not.
Bush’s poll numbers are moot in the big scheme of things. Poll numbers don’t matter in a dictatorship, which we are about an inch away from with the help of the Bush enabling Demoncans & Republicrats.
Brad :
Your an angel to the blog-o-sphere,…
apologies from you are not necessary,…
expected,.. or required.
As it is the volumes of info you crank out
is nothing short of a miracle. You fact/check info
quite thoroughly before you post,.. there must be
a lot of behind the scenes "nose to the grindstone"
work being done,… that is apparent to the few.

This is not your daddy’s republican party. This is the republican dictatorship:
"Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

There is NOBODY who does not know this. NOBODY. Creatures on fucking MARS know this.
Your pissy little argument with Dredd is INANE. Jesus. Go take a pill or something.
Anyone who supports Dubya and thinks they’re a Liberal should have their head examined.
Anyone who supports Dubya and thinks they’re a Moderate hasn’t been paying attention.
The polls DO matter. They show that Brad and other sane bloggers are successfully chipping away. It’s wonderful feedback!
Now then, who are those damned 31%…(I love saying that each week as the numbers sink lower and lower!)
Daily KOS has an interesting take on the "angry left" who sustained a war they hated by…
ALL politicians watch the poll figures!
Folks should start looking for the "magic" number. That’s the number where elected Republicans will start jumping ship and openly criticizing the administration. Falling into the 20’s will bring a significant reaction from the press. But I think the "magic" number is 27%.
So I’d say the country is probably 4% away from a certain democrat victory in November.
"So I’d say the country is probably 4% away from a certain democrat victory in November"
Don’t buy it for a second. It simply doesn’t apply to reality. The last two [s]elections were "fixed" on an unprecedented scope and magnitude, yet only a few brave souls dared to research it and call it by name, much to the chagrin of many who see themselves aligned with liberal/progressive ideals.
Just like the "moderate" ass kissers who refuse to seriously inquire about the PNAC and the long, long list of red flags concerning the crimes of 9/11 – the sole justification for the loss of our civil liberties and a blueprint for perpetual war – the idea that the [s]elections are rigged, in fact, that our democracy is illusory at best, is anathema for one reason: the darkness therein is simply too great to confront ….better to remain in denial while clinging to MSM’s version of "reality" because IT MUST BE REAL IF IT’S ON TV!!!

It’s cynicism that leads to detachment from reality.
Power politics is all about perception. This administration understands that. It is why they work so hard to control their image and manipulate the media. Their ability to "fix" results is directly tied to their ability to fool people and keep the population complacent. If that changes, a shift will come.
If GWB is perceived to be a major liability to the Republicans, they will begin to distance themselves from him and party discipline will break down. He will be forced to make major changes to stop the slide or face rebellion within the party.
Individual Congressmen and Senators know that favor within the party can be a great help in staying in office. That’s why they are willing to remain silent to many of the things that are going on. But if the party really becomes a liability, they will have to run away from GWB to stay in office. Any opposing candidate would just need to make their race a referendum on Bush/Iraq to win the local race.
Now regarding "fixed" machines, general dissatifaction may help neutralize their effect. If the pre-election and exit polling differences are great enough, they will not be able to change an election. Image a challenger leading 65% to 35% in the polls but losing 49% to 51%. It’s not going to happen without major reprecussions. And it would have to happen all across the country to stop a Republican defeat. The best "spinsters" they have couldn’t pull that off. Of course more news of insecure voting machines with multiple back doors won’t help.
So it’s perception, perception, perception. MSM can ignore the blogsphere where much truth leaks out. Relatively a small pecentage of people come here for news. But they won’t ignore presidental approval ratings, it will always be reported.
So yes, there is a "magic number". It’s just a question what that number is.
I think, come November, with the polls so low for Congress, that any Republican victory that allows them to maintain power will be suspect and the people won’t fall for it this time. Last three elections this wasn’t the case but as time and incompetancy have marched on, the people ARE fed up wih this. We aren’t stupid or in denial, just busy with daily life to get so deeply involved. When the elections come and if they are stolen, we WILL be there. Brad, with all your connections and influence, why don’t you get somethng together with J. Garafallow (did I spell that right?) accross the country? I’m sure she’s pretty pissed off too.
J,
One man’s cynicism is anothers realism, eh? No doubt it’s all about what Orwell predicted: perception/news management.
I understand the points you’ve made, however, what I’m saying is that the crucial tipping point you’re alluding to should’ve already occurred, and long ago. Especially given the appalling cowardice of the "household name" left’s reaction to the 04′ election.
I mean, I’m not suggesting there aren’t many views, many ways of examining and interpreting what’s happening. I am suggesting, however, that for things to have gotten this out of hand, it couldn’t just happened spontaneously, which leads me to lend some credence to any number of nefarious "shadow gov" ulterior agendas. There’s more at hand than mere economics, because that, as deplorable as its varying results may be, is largely driven by a sort of rationality, as where I fear there is also plenty of irrational ideology driving American policy.
Some of us have heard that there will no longer be exit polling.
Is there any information to confirm this?
Fitrakis and Wasserman reported that exit polling has in the past been done by:
"Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International, the two companies hired to do the polling for the Nation Election Pool (a consortium of the nation’s five major broadcasters and the Associated Press)"
Will they continue?
