The big news for today was the big news yesterday also. Diebold TS and TSx have an existing security problem and all states and/or counties who use these machines must fix this problem. Computer scientists and others who have information on this issue strongly suggest that all states involved should contact Diebold or the Pennsylvania Secretary of State’s office for more information. Don’t let Diebold tell you there is no problem. It is there and it is something that needs to be dealt with. Pulaski County Arkansas got their new machines on Thursday morning finally. They got their software on Thursday afternoon. The software does not work on the machines. It’s back to square one and paper ballots. “I am absolutely appalled by ES&S’ delays and the hardships ES&S has placed upon this state and our county officials” said West Virginia Secretary of State Betty Ireland. Also in West Virginia two more counties have announced they will not use ES&S voting machines in next week’s primary. They will use paper ballots. …

    1. Sorry for the double posting; it froze and I didn’t think it "took".

    2. Wow, are people finally figuring out that mass produced machines perform or fail to perform the same everywhere they go?

Notice that when vehicles are recalled it is not based on what county the vehicle is in, it is based on the fact of mass production.

What troubles me is that these mass produced election machines have a defect that is in all of them of the same version, but some counties "have no problems" with the mass produced machine.

That leads me to suspect The Silence of the Goats, who are trying to be "good citicizens by not complaining".

The exactly wrong thing to do. Do the Bruce Funk and the Ion Sancho and speak truth and let everyone know we are being destabilized.

And lets all hope it is an accident. At the present I think it is deliberate because we have the technical expertise in this nation to do it properly.

    3. What kills me is that I sometimes think the main reason folks don’t want to take election problems seriously is that they don’t want to be responsible for the destabilization that would lead to – as I think you are saying.

The question they don’t seem to want to acknowledge is, what if that destabilization has already ocurred and is ongoing?

    4. "Also in West Virginia two more counties have announced they will not use ES&S voting machines in next week’s primary. They will use paper ballots. …"

Yahoo!, maybe these counties electing to use paper ballots will demostrate to everyone that paper ballots are not so bad. The prospect of a fair election is well worth the small inconvenience of throwing off the untrustworthy computers. I hope the counting of the ballots is done in the open – an event that makes voting something important to take pride in.

    5. "Computer scientists and others who have information on this issue strongly suggest that all states involved should contact Diebold or the Pennsylvania Secretary of State’s office for more information."

That’s nice. Did you know that the information being circulated by some scientists and copied and further circulated by others (without bothering to confirm any of it with either BBV or Hursti), contains an error and is incomplete? And did you know that Diebold is still lying and providing misdirection on this?

Computer scientists should get the actual report before telling others what to do about it. And bear in mind that the tools are not available to most states to do even what Pennsylvania is doing, which is only a partial measure.

BBV is often accused by certain factions of the U.S. scientific community of jumping out of the gate too soon, and providing information that supposedly contains errors. What we are watching now is people jumping out of the gate too soon, and providing information that contains errors.

What’s really strange is that no one’s even confirming the accuracy of the information before spreading it — or the supposed solutions. Probably because they know we’ll tell the full truth about the problem.

Can’t have that now, can we? Not while everyone is papering this over with happy faces.
