On April 7th, Wired News first reported on a class action lawsuit filed against AT&T by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). AT&T is accused of allowing the NSA to monitor phone and internet communications without a warrant.

An AT&T whistleblower, Mark Klein, has come forward with testimony and documentation. Klein provides specific details about how the spying program intercepted AT&T customer communications. The NSA installed “secret rooms” in AT&T switching centers throughout the country. Live communications signals are split off into the secret room. Powerful data-mining computers installed in the room can sift through the millions of live signals.

CNN put together this short video report including comments by an EFF attorney.

  1. Remember the ABC producer that made disparaging personal comments about Bush on his Blackberry? No one should wonder anymore how personal and private comments ended up on Drudge.

We’ll be seeing more of this I’m sure. Keep your eyes open!

  2. Gads, what happened to accuracy in reporting?

EFF = Electronic Frontier Foundation, not Electronic Freedom Foundation no matter how much of the later they have done.

Is CNN intentionally doing this to limit traffic to EFF? That’s easy to correct, post a link on your website or blog:

  3. I just want to COMMEND CNN’s National Security Correspondent David Ensor for this FACTUAL, CLEAR, UNDERSTANDABLE, and VITAL piece of reporting. [EFF name confusion aside.]

I especially appreciated seeing the video of the actual AT&T building within which a branch of the National Security Agency of the Department of Defense now allegedly resides.

Mark Klein is an American patriot, and so is EFF. I am glad to see that David Ensor is one news reporter who understands the fundamental violation of our Constitution that this alleged activity targeting innocent Americans represents.

Not having access to cable television networks, but from reading reports of others about them on the internet, I had concluded that NO such factual, accurate reporting still exists on the likes of CNN. I’m very glad to be proven wrong in this instance.

P.S. To Kevin Bankston, for future interviews: you were very clear, and to the point. But remember that most Americans don’t really know what a "statute" is. So call it what it is: the LAW.

  4. I for one am happy that the NSA is doing such a thorough job to secure the safety of American citizens.
