In a recent article, published by the New Yorker, Seymour Hersh presents Bush Administration plans to take military action against Iran. According to Hersh, high ranking members of the Administration are advocating the use of nuclear weapons in an initial air strike on Iran.

This morning, Fox News anchors attempted to trash Hersh’s reputation and defended the use of nuclear weapons on Iran.

Brutal, but predictable. What else should we expect from FOX?

Beat the war drum. Attempt to make synonmous "anti American" with "anti administration".

    Fair & balanced xenophobic hate-mongers.

Can someone tell me who made these women
experts when it comes to crazies. The coulter
want to be must not think we have our own crazy
running this country. As for Mr. Hersh, I will take
what he says anytime over Fox No News. And if
these people want to back bush’s plan about
Iran, I wonder if they would mind serving in a
uniform, on the first wave? If I was still in the
military, I am afraid I would go AWOL, just like the
    Cod in charge.

Correct video on flash player, and good one about a judge vexing a FOX talking head with the truth about the FISA law on Windows Media Player. Two for the price of one. Just click the play button to watch the Hersh piece.

There’s a high probability that this kind of war against Iran talk will stir up the crazies to assassinate Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice & the gang.
Hope the White House is on high alert.

    Geez, Dave!

I knew there was a reason that I never watch Faux News.

How can a network that proudly proclaims itself to be "Fair & Balanced" not have someone like you or Mr. Friedman as a regular anchor to provide "balance" against the 3 wingnuts. Especially that blond lady…. JEEZ!!! Her attitude is so 2002!!!

One of George W Bush’s "thinkers" is Richard Perle. I interviewed Perle when he was advising Reagan; and when he spoke about "total war", I mistakenly dismissed him as mad. He recently used the term again in describing America’s "war on terror". "No stages," he said. "This is total war. We are fighting a variety of enemies. There are lots of them out there. All this talk about first we are going to do Afghanistan, then we will do Iraq . . . this is entirely the wrong way to go about it. If we just let our vision of the world go forth, and we embrace it entirely and we don’t try to piece together clever diplomacy, but just wage a total war . . . our children will sing great songs about us years from now."

So let’s see. Stopping Iran from using nuclear weapons by using nuclear weapons is the way to go. And whose going to stop Bush from using nuclear weapons? Or does he have some sort of ‘inherent authority’ to be the only one to use them? Seems like a no brainer to me. Not the argument, Bush.

For Ricky: "Being prepared" and "saber rattling" are polar opposite strategies. I suspect you really know this, but play dumb in order to act like a troll.

Bush can send a private message to Iran’s leaders, unknown to even his military brass, that the United States will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons (he wouldn’t be able to mispronounce "nuclear," because it would be in print). That would show Iran that we are ALREADY PREPARED to deal with any threat from a future nuclear attack.

When Bush allows his threats to leak out to Seymour Hersh (make no mistake, the leak was deliberate, just like the earlier leaks), that isn’t being prepared, that’s being a warmongering bully.
He knows the difference, Ricky, even if you don’t.

His motive isn’t clear…my guess is he’s just trying to play the role that worked for a while, Mr. Tough Righteous Cowboy from the Pecos. It doesn’t work any more, but (old story), Bush isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Robert, I hope you are right!

bush has his own agenda I can’t fathom, nor probably don’t want to. Nuclear weapons are the"biggest toys" for a spoiled kid prez with no conscience. Don’t they realize that once "nuclear" enters the picture, our world as we know it will end. What is to prevent someone lobbing one over here? That is reality!

Really, this guy needs to be impeached before he destroys us all, including future generations of our children.

We can see the corporate-controlled MSM beginning their cheerleading for an Iran strike. The MSM which also owns government contracts with the military. This is just like the leadup to the Iraq War, where FAIR documented that 90% of corporate-controlled news had pro-Iraq War guests, even thought the country was split 50/50. It’s happening again.

  19. 25)
Robert Lockwood Mills said on 4/10/2006 @ 3:59am PT: [Permalink]

For Mugzi: As we can see from Ricky’s posting about "being prepared," and assuming it was a sincere message and not a troll-like diversion, there are a lot of people out there who still think Bush’s tough talk makes us safer.

That might be because they have a simplistic view (shared even by some generals) that we can police today’s world with a standard military approach, i.e., identify the enemy, seek the enemy out, kill the enemy, maybe claim the enemy’s territory.

This is Military Tactics 101. It can work against an army and a navy and an enemy with a geographic identity. It can’t work against a guerrilla army, or against terrorists who don’t represent a country and who appear, vanish, and reappear from different directions or from within a battleground. It’s like fighting ghosts; how does one do that?

More to the point, how does fighting ghosts make us safer? All it does is produce more invisible and unidentifiable enemies.

At best, Bush is tragically misguided. At worst, he’s a megomanical fool. Either way, I hope with you that he’s impeached, my only reservation being that his high crimes and misdemeanors must be proven, not inferred. We can’t abandon the Constitution for political sentiment; impeaching Bush because we don’t like him would amount to that. It’s what the Republicans did to Clinton. Bad.

  20. 27)
Arry said on 4/10/2006 @ 5:30am PT: [Permalink]

Robert #27 — I agree with you about impeachment being serious business, but I think there has never been greater basis for impeachment.

The Constitution is not specific about impeachment in the legal sense. treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. But it will be necessary to be bring in specific legal concepts because of their meaningfulness in our system of government.

Lying to Congress, negating international treaties, illegal domestic surveillance, and on and on. The administration tack of "We believe it is Constitutional" is marketing – not serious legal opinion. (In fact, the result of the conflict between marketing and rational legal structure and purpose will determine the future of our nation. Marketing has been on the upswing and is arrogantly busy. It remains to be seen how strong a system of law can be.)

If it comes to impeachment, we won’t have to dig very deep for reasonable causes. It will be more of a matter of sticking to our factual guns in the face of the white noise of propaganda.

  21. 28)
Robert Lockwood Mills said on 4/10/2006 @ 8:01am PT: [Permalink]

Right. I think the easiest case to prove is that Bush broke the law with illegal spying on Americans.

I’d love to be the prosecutor (and I’m not even a lawyer). Bush volunteered the (correct) opinion in several speeches, before he got caught, that spying requires a warrant. After he got caught, he said spying without a warrant was legal. Just play those tapes over and over. Bush convicts himself.

A problem arises when the word "impeachment" is thrown around loosely. Every misjudgment in Iraq isn’t impeachable; using phony evidence after the fact to justify a predetermined war might be. Stealing elections is impeachable only if Bush knew it was happening at the time and participated in the fraud; that’s not provable, even assuming the fraud is.

There are gray areas, yet impeachment is now being tossed around like a football. When it finally happens, I want the case to be rock solid.

I was really impressed with how the "token black male" threw in his 2 cents worth in as the two bimbos were nervously making their case for the justification to attack Iran. I’m not sure he ever did get more than…"….ah….er….yeah….ah…"
But aside from that, the clip reminded me of something that I would click through so quickly after listening to about 3 seconds of such"real impressive journalism." Reminded me of a women’s gossip circle. That isn’t news. It’s propaganda pure and simple.
I think our government needs to be making strategies on how to deal with Iran and this whole nuclear matter. Thumping our chests and threatening to blow them off the face of the earth isn’t even a rational option. Diplomacy, something THIS administration knows nothing about, should be the first step. Working with other nations to try to calm the matter down and get away from all this inflamatory rhetoric would probably be another advisable step.
Damn, are we going to do this again?…and so soon? I mean, I remember history books putting together a story about a lunatic by the name of Adolf Hitler that resembled this crazed maniac we have in power today. If we EVER do this…there had better be rioting in the streets, and that’s not something I EVER want to see!

Bush on invading Iraq. When his face appears on TV, I see Howdy Doody. When he speaks, his words are those of the puppeteers who are leading our country down the highway to hell: the neocons and the parasitic Israeli lobby. The elections can’t come fast enough. Mickey F. Mouse would put this man to shame.

We can only hope some big league Republicans with clout will realize this man (Bush) is insane and has to be stopped.

Just because Bush believes the world is coming to an end, those of us who do not think this are not willing to go down.

Surely Cheney has not amassed his millions only to never be able to enjoy his ill gotten gains.

Where are the sane leaders ?

We have been told that we are addicted to oil and that we must develop and utilize other forms of energy to power our homes, vehicles, businesses…and that nuclear power is being reconsidered as a chief form of large-scale power.

Essentially, Iran is complying with the thinking of the Bush administration on the dwindling fossil fuel issue. How can they justify "nuking’ them when they are following the energy policy Bush just outlined in a recent speech?
