Cindy Sheehan and more than three hundred others were arrested this afternoon near the White House. From the look of this photo (courtesy of MSNBC) it seems she did not resist.
The mainstream media have not been quite as silent about Cindy Sheehan today as they were on Saturday; for instance, the Washington Post has an article and MSNBC has another.
Sadly, I don’t have any inside sources or further details on this one. But I’m certain we’ll all be watching very closely.
UPDATE FROM BRAD 9/27/05: Blogger, patriot (and occassional BRAD BLOG commenter) “Greyhair” has some great coverage and photos of the arrests! Thank you!
Also, RAW has the story of Conyers’ inquiry into the troubling reports of hundreds arrested without charges, held handcuffed on buses for up to 10 hours! Have I mentioned “God Bless John Conyers” lately?

I am one of the 300 plus that were arrested this afternoon along with Cindy and all the other brave patriots.
From the way we were being processed it appears they were not ready for this number. The one policeman that was talking to us, said they were surprised people did not move before the 3rd warning was issued. After the third warning they HAD to arrest us!
I was finished being processed at 9:30.
There were still hundreds for people sitting on the buses. While I may have been uncomfortable at times during this, I thought of people who have gone before me that have been a whole lot more uncomfortable. Can we say, Superdome. Or how about Abu Ghraib or our children who are living in a Desert 11 time zones away or the people living in that same Desert 11 time zones away that have been violated on a daily basis. I feel it pure joy that I was able to participate today.
I traveled to DC from southern Ca for Saturday’s march and never imagined that I would have participated in such a historic event today.
Last night after reading the article posted right here on the Bradblog, Katrina Wilcox:An Interview with
Charles Sullivan, I decided I HAD to participate in the event that was to take place today in front of the White House. What moved me was the statement regarding the problem is not civil disobedience but we are being civily obedience.
What a great bunch of people that I got to spend the afternoon and evening getting to know.
There is no other place that I would rather have been today.
Karen, you certainly have a lot to be proud of. I can feel the positive vibes from your words. You have PRIDE, something we are all sadly missing as a nation right now. My hat is off to you and the other several hundred who endured the bullshit to stand firm in your beliefs. I hope you all felt us there with you, to some degree, as you sat on the buses.
I know I’ve personally been motivated to attend the next march, screw my bills. I’ll get the money somehow and I’ll be there.
Thank you, Karen, for your heroic patriotism. Living in Prague I had neither the time nor the funds to get to DC over the weekend, but I was there in spirit. I was just watching EuroNews and they showed Cindy’s arrest. She (and all of you) acted with great dignity and conviction. Next time (and I hope it’s soon) there should be twice as many, for twice as long. Eventually the tide will turn. The whole world is, indeed, watching…
Love and Peace, Bob
You break the law, you get arrested. The tide will never turn in your favor cause you are the far left fringe that your own party hides from.
Bloggermann (Keith Olbermann) has an interesting take on the arrest. He is also saying ‘Brownie has been re-hired by FEMA.

The world is a safer place with the likes of Martha Stewart and now Cindy Sheehan behind bars.
#4 Have another helping of black-eyed peas, Earl. You are just a reflection.
I am a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. I was in DC for the rally on Saturday but did not get to stay till Monday like i wanted to. I would just like to say that many members of Veterans for Peace, and Iraq Veterans Against the War were also arrested. Just kinda overlooked by the main stream media.
medium, Don’t cha get it? They knew they would be arrested. We all had plenty of time to leave the sidewalk if we chose. To avoid violence, these things are preplanned these days. Hell, the schedule was in the paper! The police knew we were coming, they knew that some of us weren’t leaving. It was all quite courteous.
It was kind of funny, I heard on the way home that Cindy and "several" others had been arrested because they didn’t have a PERMIT to be on the SIDEWALK. Doesn’t that sound funny to you guys? In America we need a permit to be on a sidewalk. Isn’t that what sidewalks are for? Pussy King is afraid of "WE. the people" and Rover now knows that there IS a real movement.
I sadly couldn’t stay to be arrested. I really really wanted to do it but I take care of someone else and I had to get back so the person I had taking care of her could return to their job. I didn’t know if I could get out the same day and by the looks of the number arrested, I don’t think I would have. I went to Crawford to be there for the arrest that was suppose to happen but didn’t, but just couldn’t stay another day for this one. Thanks to all that did.
By the way, did someone jump the fence to the whitehouse? Anyone know? It appeared that someone went over the fence but I missed it.
Karen, you were part of history. Be proud. I envy you.
@medium right…
it’s 1000-1 and you’re in the minority…
keep ranting… we expect nothing less from someone who is so ‘extremely wrong’.
Medium Right – Hey scooter, it was a political statement – GET IT? The point was to draw attention to the cause!
BTW *bfg* How does it feel to be irrelevant?
Adam re: #8 – Thank you SO MUCH for all you’ve done. I sweart to you, we will not forget, and we’ll do everything to make sure that our government follows through on its promises to vets.
Karen #1 and Adam #8 Thank you both for all that you have done. My family all wish we could have made it also.
linda6or7 #9 I saw something yesterday that said someone did in fact jump the fence. He was rushed away by the Secret Service.
Cindy Sheehan was on Hardball this eve, to discuss her meeting today with Sen McCain. She said it lasted about 20 min., and she came away feeling he was still ‘hawkish’.
All & all, it was a very good interview, Matthews gave her time to state her stand, interupted very little. She did well, very clear and strong.
What I want to know is why many that were arrested were abused for 12 hours in handcuffs?
Tell us 6 or 7 you lousy neo-con BASTARDS.
Maybe this asshole Bush supporter has an answer>

rawstory.com has the letter from Rep Conyers, asking questions re. why these anti-war activists were treated this way. Grandmothers and elderly held in handcuffs in the back of a van for up to 12 hours.
What a disgrace, they can’t even process people properly.
Reps control every branch of government and Im irrevalant. LOLOLOLOLOL Keep losing, losers.
Well , i agree with 2/3 of your statement.
Repubs are in control, and you are irrelevant.
LOLOL Nana!
Medium Right please read the following quote ,it sums you up perfectly…
“I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of great complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth, if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven thread by thread into the fabric of their lives.

Cindy will be in Phoenix on Monday, Oct. 3rd. We’re hoping to give her a warm welcome (and will do our best to keep her out of jail)!!
Her main Rally/March begins at 6pm at Higher Ground Church (13th & Madison Streets). Come on down…the more the merrier!
