  1. Re: The Sea Level Change article above . . .
    OMG!!

    (excerpt)
“Over the last 100 years, average sea level — as measured by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency tide gauge that’s been in place for a century at Naval Station Norfolk — has risen 18 inches. According to NOAA projections, it is expected to rise between 1-3 feet by 2050.”

Looks like the coastlines of the world are going to . . .

  2. “That increase in sea level, coupled with the typical rise and fall of the tide and seasonal weather events common to an oceanside community, poses a risk to the Navy’s ability to conduct and support operations in the Atlantic” (ibid)

  3. HBO Vice: “Our Rising Oceans”, with Dr. Eric Rignot:

2:43 – “One meter [of SLR] would be a global catastrophic event, 3 meters would remap the world as we know it?”

    2:50 – “Yes, absolutely.”

One meter has already happened in some places, and has fallen that much in other places because of ice sheet melt.

“The gravamen of the issue is what will a ~1 meter or ~3 ft. SLR do to us: (The Agnotology of Sea Level Rise Via Ice Melt), and that mandates a focus on what it will do to the ports of the world:

“By volume, more than 95 percent of U.S. international trade moves through the nation’s ports and harbors, with about 50 percent of these goods being hazardous materials.”

    (NOAA PORTS, emphasis added).

(Will This Float Your Boat – 8). Last time I checked, the sea level is changing everywhere there is an ocean, which is where the seaports are (Dr. Rignot).

  4. DonL #2,

Your link mentions coastlines and shows waves breaking, which is changing the distance from the Earth to the moon …

“…the Earth’s rotation rate is slowing down and we know the Earth’s [10:53] rotation rate is going down there’s a very simple explanation for that that’s because water waves breaking on [11:00] and sometimes even in the deep ocean on shelves causes a dissipation which acts to slow the Earth’s rotation rate and we [11:07] have very accurate measures of how that slowing is occurring and there’s a step [11:13] a sort of a sequence of steps that gets to that measurement if the Earth’s rotation rate is slowing the moon is [11:19] orbiting the Earth faster if it’s orbiting faster it’s moving away from the earth and we know how fast the moon [11:25] is receding from the earth because the Apollo astronauts were nice enough to put up mirrors there and we can measure [11:30] two-way travel times back and forth but the important thing is if we take into account this tidal dissipation effect [11:37] that we know very accurately then the slowing of the Earth’s rotation matches the observed slowing when you when you [11:45] compare ancient eclipses with your predictions based on the current rotation rate why is that important…”

Just sayin'(quote is from Dr. Mitrovica’s video here: Seaports With Sea Level Change – 20, time locations added).

It is amazing how much people don’t know, eh?
