Today on The BradCast, after several weeks without one, the two Democratic Presidential candidates squared off for another debate, this time in Brooklyn in advance of next week’s critical Primary election in the state New York.
This time, the gloves really did come off — and not just in a pretend, CNN “Gloves are off!” kind of way. Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders really went at it in what was a raucous, often contentious and yet extraordinarily substantive debate on a surprisingly wide array of issues.
To help us make sense of it all, I am joined for coverage and analysis on today’s program by returning debate-coverage champ Jacki Schechner, health care reform advocate and journalist, formerly of CNN and CurrentTV, as well as by the great Peter B. Collins, one of my talk radio mentors and heroes, and longtime host of the Peter B. Collins Show!
Both Sanders and Clinton seemed to go for broke in their contrasts and attacks on Thursday night at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, on criminal justice reform, wall street money, guns, foreign policy (including a remarkable, perhaps unprecedented, exchange on Israel and Palestine), on Social Security, the failed “war on drugs”, and even on climate change.
We try to cover as much of it as we can — including a number of CNN and other corporate media failures that came along with it (Collins, for example, describes what he sees as the “Swiftboating” of Bernie, and Schechner calls out CNN moderator Wolf Blitzer for at least one inappropriately biased question) on today’s very lively and very fast-paced program!

Don’t have cable. I’m waiting for a video on YouTube where Sanders and Hillary’s mouths match up with the sound.
Peter B. Collins is a God! I didn’t find out he was back until about a month ago. I should donate, but I only take in $13,000 a year and Brad is soaking up some of that already. 🙂 Money well spent!
Hillary lies like a rug. You can tell she’s lying because her lips are moving. The Goldman transcripts would be her “47%” Romney-esque speech – something that would seriously wound if not fatally damage her candidacy. In 2016, I’ve got to believe that there has to be audio or video of at least one of those speeches out there. You can bet that one of those speeches will come out if she is the nominee – sometime in mid-October – when it will do the most damage.
Hate to disagree with you and your guests, but defeating Hillary, either now or in November, is the ONLY way the people will ever be able to take the party back for all of us. No, it wouldn’t be a great four years, but nothing changes for the better if she becomes POTUS. The current controllers of the Democratic Party must be overthrown. Electing Bernie is the first step of that. Barring that, defeating Hillary is the only other way to go.
I had to download the debate in 13 sections and put them together. I guess CNN cares more about having us buy cable then hearing important debates, or loves to put their own pundit spin on segments in snip-its. 🙁
Finally watched it yesterday.
Other then Sanders’s stunning remarks that Israel overreacted to Palestinian attacks, and pointed out Hillary’s indifferent speech for AIPAC, one thing you missed in the encapsulation here, was that Sanders called Hillary’s “super predator” comment racist. I’m pretty sure she never used that term in reference to Timothy McVeigh.
Might be best to let it go. Explosive stuff though.
I was glad to hear Peter say he voted for Rocky Anderson for president on his show once. I think Anderson has meritorious integrity for standing up against the corrupt system and media. I hope Collins didn’t miss Rocky standing up for Sanders on “Democracy Now”.
