U.S. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a one-time leading contender for the 2012 GOP Presidential nomination, may have topped herself with this one…and that is no easy feat. Steve Benen at MaddowBlog describes these remarks, as flagged by RightWingWatch today, as “one of the greatest Bachmann videos of all time”…
Here’s the amazing transcript, and a very few remarks (not many are needed) on the astounding gibberish Bachmann offers, with apparent complete earnestness, in the above video…
Why do I say that? He did it in 2012. Do you remember? Anyone who was here as a Latina under age 30, he said, ‘You get to vote.’
What? He decides you get to vote? If he did it 2012, know — take it to the bank — he’ll do in 2014. And then guess what will happen? Democrat in the White House; Democrats controlling the Senate; Democrats controlling the House. At that point they will change election law, and it will be almost impossible to ever see a Republican majority again.
Do we get how important this is? I’m not crying wolf here. This is working for the president. It’s not working for the American people, but, hey, it’s great by him. He has a perpetual magic wand and nobody’s given him a spanking yet and taken it out of his hand. That’s what Congress needs to do — give the president a major wake-up call. And the way we spank the president is we do it through the checkbook. We’re the ones who say, ‘No, you can’t have the money.’ What’s wrong with us?
Benen, who brought this video to our attention, attempts to offer at least a cursory, if snarky, fact-check for Bachmann’s madness.
“President Obama does not have a ‘magic wand’ that gives people voting rights,” he notes. And, no, “We don’t ‘remember’ this” having happened in 2012, Benen adds, “because it didn’t happen.”
“The president allowed Dream Act kids to stay in the country, but he did not give them the right to vote. Bachmann appears to have simply made this up, and convinced herself that her imaginary world is true.”
After a few more brief fact-checks on Bachmann’s inane remarks, Benen reminds us that, while it may all be amusing: “Keep in mind, Bachmann is not only responsible for helping write federal laws, but House Republican leaders also gave her a seat on the House Intelligence Committee, where she has access to some of the nation’s most sensitive national security information. … It’s not at all comforting.”

One would think that in the most powerful nation on the planet that the intelligence committee of the House would not see the folly of putting, an ignorate, clueless, dim wit on that committee. One of the reasons I have an ever diminishing opinion of the US Congress.
Her last question, “What’s wrong with us?” is the right one. What’s wrong with us(and I realize there are multiple dysfunctional aspects that perpetuate/promote this kind of madness) that we allow this woman, and others very much like her, to assume public office?
The problem I see here, is there will always be x amount of people who believe this stuff. That is why they continue to say the most absurd statements. Spaghetti on the wall, see what sticks!
Maybe she’s not crying wolf, but she (or her speech/website writer) may be crazy like a fox.
Check her out (if you can stomach it).
There are uninformed people out there who listen to her and believe her.
I’m wondering if Michele’s strong anti-immigration views are merely cover meant to distract us from the probability that she’s an extra-terrestrial.
It would explain a lot. Her confusion over the most basic American history. Her lack of facility with what is supposed to be her native tongue.
Make a great tabloid headline, too–
Anti-Immigrant Bachmann The Ultimate Alien–AN EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL!!!!!!!!!!
She will spew these lies and the right wing radio and Fox noise will pick it up and tell all their cult that she is absolutely right. The GOP is nothing but a bunch of liars.
She is just as much a whackjob as Palin is! They should not give her any type of forum to spew this kind of hateful and untruthful rhetoric. She is just a total embarrassment for any political party!
