{"id":6665,"date":"2008-11-13T16:13:40","date_gmt":"2008-11-14T00:13:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=6665"},"modified":"2009-07-14T17:22:24","modified_gmt":"2009-07-15T00:22:24","slug":"debunked-32-franken-ballots-in-a-car-story-is-complete-nonsense-never-happened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bbnewdb.webbyspice.com\/?p=6665","title":{"rendered":"Debunked: Republican&#8217;s &#8217;32 Franken Ballots in a Car&#8217; Story is Complete Nonsense, Never Happened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/MinnesotaMischief_CarBallots_AlFranken_FoxNews_111208.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">For those following the nonsense being put forward by the <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6660\">GOP conspiracy theorists<\/a> (such as Sean Hannity, Norm Coleman, RedState blog, PowerLine blog, and all their fact-free friends), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/davidbrauer\/2008\/11\/12\/4565\/minneapolis_election_director_speaks_ballots_in_my_car_story_false\">David Brauer at MinnPost.com<\/i><\/a> does a terrific job of debunking the whole &#8220;32 ballots driven around in an election director&#8217;s car for days&#8221; nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>They <i>weren&#8217;t<\/i> driven around in her car, they <i>weren&#8217;t<\/i> all votes for Franken, they weren&#8217;t &#8220;lost&#8221; for days, and the claim, which is being used by the national GOP at their <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6660\">conspiracy theory &#8220;Minnesota Recount&#8221; site<\/a> to prop up their unsubstantiated claims of a &#8220;stolen election,&#8221; turns out (surprise surprise) to be entirely false&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Specifically, as to the claims that 32 ballots were driven around for days in the car of Minneapolis Elections Director Cindy Reichert:<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">1. The ballots were <i>never<\/i> in her car.<br \/>\n2. The ballots were never in <i>anyones<\/i> car for several days.<br \/>\n3. The ballots were never lost or forgotten, and spent Election Night until counting day in secure city facilities.<\/div>\n<p>See Brauer for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.minnpost.com\/davidbrauer\/2008\/11\/12\/4565\/minneapolis_election_director_speaks_ballots_in_my_car_story_false\">complete <i>real<\/i> details on the story<\/a>, about which Sean Hannity spent a full two segments misreporting and misrepresenting on Fox &#8220;News&#8221; last night.<\/p>\n<p>Even the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty, one time Republican VP short-lister was willing to forward the same, wholly inaccurate scam on Fox &#8220;News&#8221;, in response to Hannity&#8217;s persistent lies about it (<em>See the video <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newshounds.us\/2008\/11\/13\/hannity_and_fox_news_allege_voter_fraud_in_minnesota_voter_fraud_allegations_without_proof_and_despite_admonishments_from_governor.php\">full video here<\/a>, read the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2008\/11\/13\/minnesota-governor-tim-pa_n_143564.html\">text transcript here<\/a>.<\/em>):<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">HANNITY: What about 32 absentee ballots all going to Franken, every one of them? Does that not concern you? Does that not sound like cheating?<\/p>\n<p>PAWLENTY: The Secretary of State in Minnesota has the authority over these matters, Minnesota has a reputation for clean and fair and good elections, we&#8217;ve got 4,100 precinct run by volunteers, they do a good job and we thank them. However, these disportionate patterns are a problem, and finding 32 ballots in the trunk of a car supposedly forgetting that they were there is suspicious.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even though Brauer&#8217;s piece, debunking the entire affair, was posted yesterday at noon, it looks like the NRSC tin-foiler hatters haven&#8217;t yet gotten around to adding it to their conspiracy theory site in order to correct the inaccurate information they&#8217;d presented previously. Nor has the <i>WSJ<\/i> retracted or corrected yesterday&#8217;s  <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB122644940271419147.html\">bullshit, unbylined (hi John Fund!) editorial<\/a> which charged,  &#8220;Democrats [were] stealing a Senate seat for left-wing joker Al Franken&#8221; by charging that &#8220;Minneapolis&#8217;s director of elections [had] forgotten to count 32 absentee ballots in her car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pathetic. Nonetheless, we again renew our offer to <i>both<\/i> Republicans and Democrats alike to help them try to ensure an accurate recount, <i>if<\/i> they actually want one, by first pointing them towards <a href=\"https:\/\/bradblog.com\/?p=6653\">this helpful article<\/a> we wrote over the weekend.
