During this past Democratic primary season, state after state was “surprised” by larger than expected voter turnouts; it was as if the only people who were not aware of heightened interest in the elections were those in charge of ensuring enough ballots. We are now three months from the November elections. Have cash-strapped states further consolidated precincts so as to virtually guarantee long waits to vote? Is anyone ensuring that enough ballots will be printed to address a likely historically large turnout? If past experience is a guide, unless focus is placed on these issues now, expect what happened in Ohio in 2004 to be replicated across the nation this November.” …

Featured – National: Memo to State Election Czars: Expect Record November Voter Turnout
http://www.beyondchron.org/articles/Memo_to_State_Election_Czars_Expect_Record_November_Voter_Turnout_5935.html

National: Pew study says at points some polls were ‘busting at the seams’
http://www.politicsincolor.com/articles/news/08/04/2008/large-voter-turnout-during-primaries-causes-problems-polls-survey-says.html

IL: Suit against eSlate machine maker withdrawn
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/couriernews/news/1089351,3_1_EL04_A3HARTSUIT_S1.article

NY: State lags in switch to HAVA standards
Voting Machines: New York officials fear use of defective ones
http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20080804/NEWS01/536694401/State+lags+in+switch+to+HAVA+standards

VA: Fear Mongers
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/03/AR2008080301430.html

VA: Being Mr. Frederick, Scourge of “Identity Theft”
http://www.moresoftmoneyhardlaw.com/news.html?AID=1314

**”Daily Voting News” is meant as a comprehensive listing of reports each day concerning issues related to election and voting news around the country regardless of quality or political slant.
