Meanwhile Iowa’s Governor and ex-Secretary of State Chet Culver wants to just add a vvpat printer to the state’s DREs. Mauro has support from the state’s active election integrity community and members of the state legislature from both parties and county election officials from both parties. Culver wants the counties to sink or swim on their own while the state still has over $3M of HAVA money that they can use to partially pay for the change-over. Unfortunately, Culver is in a position to veto any plan that supports Mauro and the voters in Iowa….

NAtional: Opinion – A Clearer Picture on Voter ID
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/opinion/03carter.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

AR: Benton County – Officials Expect Smooth E-Voting
Training aims to avoid past troubles
http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2008/02/02/news/020308azpolltech.txt

CA: Los Angeles County – Ex-county clerk lists system faults, job rigors
http://www2.whittierdailynews.com/news/ci_8153626

CA: Riverside County – Paper ballots likely to mean late nights, slow results
http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2008/02/03/news/californian/21_00_722_2_08.txt

CO: Signature verification machines for mail ballots
http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_charles__080202_co_3a_signature_verifi.htm

FL: Volusia County – Using 2 types of voting machines slows count in Volusia County
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/volusia/orl-vvote03x08feb03,0,7413863.story

GA: State ready for first real test of voter ID law, official says
http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2008/02/03/voteready_0204.html

IA: Spending voting money on entertainers ‘unallowable’
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080203/NEWS10/802030342/-1/SPORTS09

IA: Culver, Mauro disagree on how to update voting systems
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080203/NEWS10/802030340/-1/SPORTS09

NY: The Fixer
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/nyregion/thecity/03elec.html?ref=thecity

NY: DREs Take It To Court
Court Asked to Reverse State Ruling Eliminating DREs Judge Expected to Rule on 2/4/8
http://nyvv.org/blog/bolipariblog.html

**”Daily Voting News” is meant as a comprehensive listing of reports each day concerning issues related to election and voting news around the country regardless of quality or political slant.
