{"id":1804,"date":"2005-09-06T05:40:08","date_gmt":"2005-09-06T09:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.test.bradblog.com\/?p=1804"},"modified":"2005-09-06T05:40:08","modified_gmt":"2005-09-06T09:40:08","slug":"legal-battle-for-2004-recount-continues-in-new-mexico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bbnewdb.webbyspice.com\/?p=1804","title":{"rendered":"Legal Battle for 2004 Recount Continues in New Mexico"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Guest blogged by David Edwards<\/i><\/p>\n<p>On Monday September 5, lawyers representing presidential candidates David Cobb of the Green Party and Michael Badnarik of the Libertarian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.winktv.com\/x466.xml?URL=http:\/\/localhost\/APWIREFEED\/d8c9q3701.xml\" target=\"_blank\">petitioned New Mexico&#8217;s highest court to order a recount of 2004 election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This appeal to New Mexico&#8217;s Supreme Court came after refusals of the state Canvassing Board and Gov. Bill Richardson to conduct a recount as set forth under New Mexico election law.<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">John Boyd, a lawyer for Cobb and Badnarik, said a recount of paper ballots and a recheck of voting machine results was still needed to highlight problems with New Mexico&#8217;s election system.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no more important issue than the purity of elections in this state,&#8221; Boyd told justices during an hour-long hearing. &#8220;And I will tell &#8230; the court that the elections are not pure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<br \/>\nCobb and Badnarik said the canvassing board had exceeded its powers in demanding more than $1 million in advance.
