{"id":10005,"date":"2013-05-13T06:05:09","date_gmt":"2013-05-13T13:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bradblog.com\/?p=10005"},"modified":"2013-05-12T20:52:58","modified_gmt":"2013-05-13T03:52:58","slug":"wall-street-journals-weapons-grade-denial-in-defense-of-carbon-dioxide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bbnewdb.webbyspice.com\/?p=10005","title":{"rendered":"Wall Street Journal&#8217;s &#8216;Weapons-Grade Denial&#8217;: &#8216;In Defense of Carbon Dioxide&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/BradBlog.com\/Images\/BurningEarthHand.jpg\" hspace=\"6\" vspace=\"3\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">From William Happer and Harrison Schmitt at the <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424127887323528404578452483656067190.html\">once-but-no-longer respectable newspaper known as the <i>Wall Street Journal<\/i><\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">Contrary to what some would have us believe, increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will benefit the increasing population on the planet by increasing agricultural productivity.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nFor most plants, and for the animals and humans that use them, more carbon dioxide, far from being a &#8220;pollutant&#8221; in need of reduction, would be a benefit.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nNowadays, in an age of rising population and scarcities of food and water in some regions, it&#8217;s a wonder that humanitarians aren&#8217;t clamoring for more atmospheric carbon dioxide. Instead, some are denouncing it.<\/div>\n<p>If you have no idea why the nonsense above &#8212; beloved by the fossil-fuel industry, assuredly, but embarrassingly shameful when offered in an op-ed by the <i>WSJ<\/i> &#8212; is &#8220;dangerously wrong,&#8221; as Phil Plait at Slate describes it, see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/bad_astronomy\/2013\/05\/10\/carbon_dioxide_and_global_warming_more_is_not_better.html\">his response to it<\/a>, which begins like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class=\"media\">I see a lot of pretty amazingly bad global warming denial online. It ranges from mildly cherry-picked data to such baldly transparent garbage that you have to wonder if the person who wrote it can possibly, actually believe what they are saying is true.<\/p>\n<p>After reading dozens, hundreds, of such mind-numbing articles, I think we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve found a winner. One that is so sweepingly wrong and based on such a ridiculous premise that it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s weapons-grade denial.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Plait&#8217;s response is worth reading in full if you are unclear on any aspect of the issues here about which the <i>WSJ<\/i> &#8212; now owned by Rupert Murdoch&#8217;s Newscorp &#8212; is hoping to hoax you in support of doing nothing to fight climate change.
