On Monday night, NBC News aired its new documentary, Hubris: Selling the Iraq War, based on the book of a similar name by David Corn and Michael Isikoff. The film offered a number of new and disturbing insights since the original 2007 book was published.
While it may be maddening — particularly for those of us who followed the massive scam as it was ongoing — the documentary should be mandatory viewing for those who have lost sight of just how each and every single one of the key reasons used to sell the U.S. on war with Iraq was built on known lies. Each and every point — from Saddam’s alleged ties to al-Qaeda, to his alleged mobile chemical labs, to his alleged nuke program, to those aluminum tubes said to have been for use in uranium enrichment, to the “fissile material” (yellowcake) he was said to have been trying to obtain from Niger — was a lie. And each an every lie was known to be a lie by the scoundrels and war criminals who sold it to the American public and a compliant American media.
Even with its failures, and several of them are identified here, Hubris reminds us of how each and every one of those points was a scam. Period. And, while it’s not expressly highlighted (but should be in a follow up!), we are reminded how none of the liars have ever faced any accountability whatsoever, despite nearly 4,500 U.S. troops killed, more than 30,000 of them wounded, well over 100,000 Iraqi citizens murdered and some $3 trillion looted from our nation’s coffers. You should take the time to watch it.
The entire documentary, broken into 6 parts, narrated by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, and originally aired on 2/18/2013, follows in full below…

If we can’t put people in jail over this, it’s going to happen again. It’s a simple matter of there being a) massive profit and b) no deterrent.
Same with the banking “crisis/ripoff”.
Anytime there is massive profit and no penalty for wrongdoing, wrong will be done.
Thank you SO much for posting this !
While I recognize that the producers have chosen to be as UN-sensationalistic as possible, there are two clips I would have liked to have seen included: Saddam’s execution and G.W. Bush “joshing” about “Where are those WMD’s ?”
This was a good documentary but much too short. It could have been split up with more detail into a 3-part show, I think. Watching Bush strut his stuff and announce “Mission Accomplished” and a few photo’s of those who died needlessly might have been an eye opener that’s needed to really sink home.
We’ve known for years the Iraq War was based on nothing but lies but seeing it and those who were involved was something needed for our history books since some like to think it never happened as it did. This will go down in history and we will look like the fools we were for believing anything Cheney and Bush told us.
All the new documents reveal is that all the independent non-corporate media and liberal bloggers were right. It was all lies and propaganda to get us into a war.
I didn’t watch the films. It would make me so mad. But you cannot blame the pooor people for this. O mean the lack of judgement. Only the wealthy can afford to buy a judge, prosecuter, and jury. The joe blows of the world cannot afford it. And the bribes we pay overseas by “defense pacts” ensures our cia and military will not touch their governments. We are on our way down that happy trail, leading to the next set of chains, on oour minds and bodies, and too upset by the snookies of the world.
I agree completely.
In 2005 Bush stated the reason we went to war was that Saddam would not let the U.N. weapon inspectors back in. When you tell so many lies it becomes hard to keep them all straight.
It is great to have it, but it was pabulum.
It does not show how utterly batshit crazy the whole system is, but rather allows too much conjecture that this was an aberration.
It wasn’t.
Look at some of the lyrics of this song sponsored by the military:
(Whole Song Here). Don’t get me wrong, as GRRRR said up-thread, the MSM has to toe the line.
The documentary omitted a very important and effective ‘sales’ technique for promoting the war was the White House Iraq Group, in which Condy Rice played a vital role. At TVNL we exposed this group years ago, and we exposed the Powell lies in a very well supported editorial when the speech was first made.

To compile this body of work, evidence if you will, confirms that the event known as 9/11 has never been investigated as deep and thorough as it should have been. To think that these people that went to these lengths to attack and invade Iraq after lying to the world and then saying it’s insane to think that that these people had nothing to do with 9/11 is well- insane.

All this and more is true. So what? We all know the fraud was orchestrated by the Israeli network which routinely sacrifices American interest over Israeli interest. Israel is the only country that benefited from destroying Saddam’s power. Now they want to instigate a war against Iran. And we are quiet. There are no demonstrations. We have not even tried to unseat the legislators who are Israeli stooges.
This is and more will be a punishment for our apathy
