On my KPFK/Pacifica show today (which we may be calling “The BradCast” thanks to suggestions here, but still open to others!), we covered the breaking news out of Wisconsin today, naturally. Asst. AG JoAnne Kloppenburg’s unflinching announcement that she would be filing for a statewide “recount” in her state Supreme Court election against the incumbent Justice David Prosser, happened in a press conference just prior to air time. So we had to scramble, but think we covered things well (given what we have to work with over here.)
One of my guests was WI’s former union organizer, former state planner and former elected official Leslie “Buzz” Davis, a Kloppenburg supporter who spent some 20 minutes with her at her home last night, after she’d invited him in to chat when he went there to deliver 1000 signatures on a petition asking her to recount the state.
I was also joined by Sarah Manski of WisconsinWave.org who, with her group and her husband Ben (who I worked with years ago during another recount, when he worked for the campaign of Green Party Presidential candidate David Cobb in 2004), is raising funds to support Kloppenburg’s efforts.
Again, our written coverage of today’s breaking news is here. Our audio coverage for KPFK follows below…

Defeating luther olsen needs to be “job one”. Even if Kloppenburg were to be declared the winner, it will mean little or nothing if we don’t flip the senate.
This cockroach cannot stand having any light being shined on his sleazy scam.
Wisconsin media have stood down and this has been going on for years. Can your guests or anyone else you have access to look at this?
The story is dynamite and if a few things are verified, it is a slam dunk.
let this be the final straw for electronic voting
You are, right, Ernest; but proclaiming it so won’t make it happen – not meant as snark.
But Ernest, isn’t election fraud actually part of a larger criminality that we should be talking about?
No one steals an election in a democracy with good intentions. I understand that we pick and choose the issues we feel passionate about and run with them.
I know that Brad has been mocked for even suggesting we count the votes – I have been mocked too for mentioning irregularities or anomalies.
However, it is the larger crimes that are perpetrated or covered up that create the bigger problem. My link above is a HUGE example that someone needs to get on. In WI, luther olsen and joan wade belongs in prison.
He has probably not stolen elections, represents such a stoooooooopid district that people vote for him even though it is widely known around town he had an outrageous adulterous affair and now occupies wade/spillner’s former seat.
Don’t get me wrong – graateful for the focus n election fraud here; just that the reason we are mocked for talking about it is that folks don’t understand or accept the larger criminality that election fraud creates/maintains.
Perhaps the key to actually making this the “final straw” for electronic voting is to work our butts off to educate the public and demand accountability.
Dur Chimpfurher stole two elections – each time his opponent and dems stood down. Then they proceeded to stand down for the most criminal treasonous administration in US history!!!
Because that administration was not held accountable, there is no reason for the public to be concerned about the theft of 2000 and 2004.
And as treasonous and criminal as the theft of 2000 and 2004 were, the looting and criminality that followed was much worse.
Please, Brad, if you have access to anyone in WI media – pass along my tip. I olsen’s district (and the fox valley in WI) the papers are all owned by gannet, so there is no real news. In fact some days the paper is 4 double sided pages!
No news, lots of propaganda gannet’s rags. And TV, LOL! No news in this market either. HELP!
I see you now moderate comments that ask you to share – so you are really what the other bloggers say, just someone that promotes himself.
OK – you found an issue to look like a hero. Now how about doing something simple that might actually be constructive and requires little or nothing from you?
Or is that too much to ask?
Daily Kos quotes the GAB:
recount = good idea
GREAT radio, again, Brad. You can’t know how great it is for your devoted readers to be able to TUNE IN in REAL TIME for such news.
I scheduled my work day around your program, insisting everyone leave me be for 30 minutes while I listened intently to your program. Fascinating show.
FWIW – I’m not crazy about “The BradCast”…
it’s cute enough, lends itself well as a companion to “The BradBlog”, but it’s a little bit…I dunno…undignified. ?
I don’t have an alternative suggestion, but I’d prefer just “The Brad Friedman Show”. Gets your whole name out there; Simple, less kitchy.
@WI resident: not sure what your beef with Brad is, but if you’ve been reading his blog for years, self-promoting is about the last words I’d use to describe the man. Please be polite if you are asking for help. Right?!
OMG. Check it out! WI GAB Kevin Kennedy spontaneous on the street interview recorded after the recount rally footage from http://www.defendingwisconsin.org:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6qzLI7FtNk&feature=player_embedded
WOWEEEeeE! A sitting member of the GAB taking time to talk to voters about their concerns?! On the street?! Answering their questions THOUGHTFULLY?!
…I don’t know if I trust ‘im, but I sure do LIKE ‘im!
Dear WI resident ~
We’re reading you, and thank you *so* for bringing this info to light, here. I can tell you must be an educator, and I can tell this story (and it’s lack of coverage) is eating you up inside. All of us here *get that* in more ways than I can explain.
You seem to be new here, so maybe you don’t realize that Brad Friedman is a REAL independent news journalist – which means he makes bupkus for covering a FULL HOST of stories that go unreported by the corporate media (and even other blogs!)
He has been a tireless advocate for disenfranchised voters and hero whistle-blowers now for years; has made all kinds of personal (and professional) sacrifices to continue this arduous, herculean, often maddening fight.
Your post is way out of line.
Oh, and comments are not modded here unless posters are unwilling to follow the basic rules of posting:

Trust me. We get all kinds. Brad can’t afford to pay a moderator.
jeanie dean @ # 10…great post, great link…………..i would encourage every1 to take the time to watch it
what stood out to me is the virtual hand count brad has been talking about(the informal tally)is not only legal,it is expected
and the gab doesnt get IT
americans deserve an open, honest, transparent election, there is no reason any of us should have to trust any1…we should be able to oversee the entire process

that was copy of what i see,whr did ernest comment go?
If Noam had been on the show he would have told Brad:
(MOMCOM, comments section).
Karen @14, my comment @4 was simply a question posed to Brad about the status of the GAB request for a hand count, which I promptly deleted when I found the answer.
The answer to my question is set forth @6.
Don’t really understand what WI Resident is referring to when he/she says I was right. It was simply a question. WI Resident seems to think that Brad had modified my comment. He didn’t. I did.
Perhaps, next time, I’ll leave the comment in and add an update to the same comment so no one thinks there’s something nefarious about my deleting a redundant question.
