Texas puts the hammer down. Tom DeLay found guilty on all counts. Breaking from Austin Statesman…
…
DeLay was charged with money laundering and conspiracy to commit money. He faces a possible sentence of 5-99 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine on the money laundering charge, and 2-20 years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine on the conspiracy charge.
Prosecutors earlier said they believe the DeLay case is the first such criminal charge ever filed over Texas’ century-old prohibition on corporate contributions in state political races.
Delay, a Republican who was nicknamed “The Hammer” because of his heavy-handed style, was accused of conspiring to funnel $190,000 of corporate money through the Republican National Committee, which sent $190,000 in campaign donations to seven GOP candidates for the Texas House.
State law prohibits corporations from giving donations to candidates directly or indirectly.

I’ll bet just about anything that his conviction will be thrown out on appeal. Because in America, no republican with power and money is ever held accountable for anything. So this is just a temporary bump in the road for DeLay. It’ll go away on appeal.
I am afraid that Steve is totally right (Hi Steve!). However, we can at least celebrate from now until/if it is overturned on appeal. It certainly could not have happened to a more deserving person! Since he was such a flop on Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), maybe he can polish up his skills with the new friends he will find in the slammer! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
In April, the Supreme Court determined that the Texas law banning corporate contributions was unconstitutional, didn’t they?
I guess we’ll find out.
He must have been really freaking guilty to get convicted in Texas. But I agree with Steve, we probably won’t see him Dancing With The Bars in an orange jumpsuit.

Congressperson Delay may escape justice through appeals or, (God forsake), pardons, but he will never escape his own feces.
Let’s face it; Tom Delay NEVER came to the defense of his good friend Jack Abramoff because he wasn’t in the congressional club and got convicted.
Is the “liberal” media going to defend “The Hammer”? Let’s see what happens.
Should be interesting!
