Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) says “comity” in the must-see clip below, but “comedy” might have been more appropriate in regard to Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) shut down of Sen. Joe Lieberman (WhoKnows-CT), as Franken was presiding over the chamber, which left us laughing out loud, and applauding quietly to ourselves. (Via TPM with more background)…

Though we’ve had our own beefs with Franken’s politics over the years, we must concede that it’s frickin’ awesome to finally see and hear someone — anyone — speak this way in the U.S. Senate. Thank God we got some from the Left showing the cajones we so long have been deprived of from the majority of Ds. Kuccininch has cajones, too bad the media are boot lickers (or ARE) for the defense industry. YAAAAAY!!!! I LOVE Franken. king of cajones in the U.S. Congress.

Franken has quickly become one of my favorite politicians in the time he’s been in office.

Al Franken is part of the problem, not the solution. His boorish and ill-advised put down of Joe Leiberman advances no agenda, and simply reveals him to be the anal pore that he is.
I find it very interesting that Mr. McCain can’t remember an incident of not allowing the opposition to speak in all his years. Very interesting indeed.
It seems that back when the Iraq war resolution that was being rushed through the Senate in 2002, Robert Byrd had offered an amendment to limit the amount of time President Bush had to exercise his desire to go to war to one year. Beyond which point the authorization would need to be re-authorized. Since Iraq was being called such an imminent threat to America, this wasn’t very controversial to not give the President an unlimited window for war.
Yet there were those who fought against it and won. Mr. McCain and Mr. Lieberman being principle among that group. On the Senate floor, Sen. Mark Dayton (D-MN) was adding himself as a co-sponsor the the Byrd ammendment and offering his comments when his time ran out (he had been speaking less than 3 minutes). He requested an additional 30 seconds from the chair (note: this was a request for an actual amount of time, not an additional “moment” which is not measurable).
Of course you know who was quick to object. Of course, John McCain.
The fact that this involves McCain, LIEberman and the junior senator from Minnesota just like 2002 is very ironic and I’m sure will be picked up by FauxNews right away. Maybe not though.

If anyone has been compromised by any number of organisations from the RNC to Isreal to Turkey, it would be Lieberman. Look at the weird way he votes on things. There are more strings pulling him than a marionette.
I’d like to thank Minnahoota for having the good sense to hold elections with an actual ballot that could be recounted and the citizens who actually participated to count them.
