Constitutional law professor Jonathan Turley finds ths decision inexplicable. “The president literally has gotten onto a plane this evening to go to Norway,” he told MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann on Wednesday, “to accept the Nobel Prize, while his Justice Department is effectively gutting a major part of Nuremberg.”
“The Obama administration is arguing not only that they shouldn’t be prosecuted,” Turley emphasized, “but it’s now saying that you shouldn’t even be able to sue them civilly. … It’s an international disgrace.”
Turley pointed out that several legal advisors to Germany’s Ministry of Justice were convicted during the Nuremberg trials held after World War II for providing the legal advice that justified Nazi war crimes. Now the Obama administration, in its desire to uphold executive privilege at any cost, is willing to toss that principle aside.
…
“The Justice Department’s prosecuted lawyers who give advice to mobsters,” Turley concluded, “but apparently if you give advice to advance a war crime, that’s just ‘full and frank advice.'”

new boss same as the last boss
As always, Brad, I appreciate coverage of an issue that is very personal to me. Turley has been spot-on throughout.
The Obama sell out is just about complete. His initiation into the capitalist-imperialist-neofascist greedy filthy bastard club is just about finalized.
We was had…bamboozled…run amok…led astry…
Excerpts from Obama’s inaugaral speech
Obama you obviously took the easy way out…the shortcut. You’ll have to work overtime now to reach the underachievement of Bill Clinton.
And Obama your sellout just nullified Nuernberg…those that died in Normandy are sure proud today…
Do tell Mr. Salesman
I’m almost laughing now…
A return to truth ?
era of responsibility ?
You a man elected to execute/enforce the law ?
Obama you spoke these soaring words….you haven’t lived up to them…hell you haven’t even tried.
“meet the new boss…same as the old boss”
Funny you should mention the sellout just now….
Mick, that was gonna be my comment!
Obama is just so …. not what I was hoping for.
The Nobel Speech was, in a word, BUSH.
I remember, during Bush, there was a daily disgrace, it was only a matter of wondering what it was going to be. I’m getting that same sinking feeling with Obama.
Jesus Christ, what was our alternative? McCain/Palin? Turning into Palin/Warren? We’re fucked. Dennis, man, you gotta run 3rd party!

American experiment in democracy.
July 4, 1776 … Nov 4, 2000
Exactly, Cosimo! – I have always supported Kucinich. When I ran for office in New Mexico I ran as a Kucinich Democrat. I didn’t do me much good then, but if Kucinich went independent 3rd party, I have no doubt he would have a strong following after what is happening with Obama, and what will, no doubt, continue.
Back in 2004, with Dean and Kucinich, there was so much talk about “unelectable”. I don’t remember which of the two said it, but they said “I’m electable if you vote for me.”
Dag! Am I reading this correctly? Obama is a sack of filth? A Constitutional scholar sack of filth? I thought he was just choked up at his swearing in and I feared that the repugs would crucify him for his flubbing it there with CJ John Roberts. But damnit, Man! I didn’t expect Obama to be this stinking awful. There’s a dark secret somewhere.
padilla is an american citizen too, that makes this even worse to me…so let me get this straight in my mind…..seigleman gets not a nickel from anyone and he is still prosecuted, yoo writes a play book to torture american citizens and he is given a pass?
sad times
“We won’t get fooled again”
quote Peter Townshend…
Will someone please manke a petition to dis-bar these war criminals???
I’ll sign it……
Yes, I agree, this is the time if ever there was one for a third party to emerge. The work should shift into overdrive NOW to get a push established. Obama weakens his positions every day, to the horror of so many who voted for him (including myself).
So far it seems as though the republicans will have little to offer outside of extreme right-wing candidates in 2012. With both Obama’s decreasing support base and a republican party shoved even further into the right wing corner, I believe a strong third party candidate, like a Kucinich for example, stands a better chance than ever to bring about the type of upset that could end in victory – or at the very least could establish a strong foothold for future efforts.
I know this is extreme wishing on my part – but then it seems that’s about all we’re left with after the debacle that was the Bush administration and that is the Obama administration.
The failures of this administration hurts so much that it’s almost impossible to find the words to express that hurt. The situation was intolerable under Bush/Cheney, but we expected horrible things from them. Obama’s betrayals of our constitution feel even more horrible given the trust so many put in him.
