Colbert on Torture Probe, Dismal Media Coverage…

Share article:

And on a “lighter” note, Colbert takes a look at the report that AG Eric Holder is “on the verge of” appointing a prosecutor to look into Bush/Cheney torture, and the media’s dismal coverage (hello NBC’s Chuck Todd!), contending that carrying out the Rule of Law against politicians — apparently only Republican ones — should be avoided, because politicians would debate about it on television…

  1. Unfortunately, between the obamabots that shout down any mention of all the ways obama is selling us out (and doing the OPPOSITE of his “yes we can” campaign) and the cover of the current healthcare debate – all of this gets lost.

The repugs will give him a free pass on everything he does that dur chimpfurher.

The dems will because he’s a dem.

The future of this administration does ride being able to point to a “win” on healthcare – the economy is not going to dramatically improve, he is continuing treason, illegal wars, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

Pretty sorry state when you get shouted down for mentioning the differences between candidate obama and the guy that is now in White House.

  2. Just arm yourself with really good links and remind the Obamaniacs that a Democratic Plutocracy is just as merciless as a Republican one. Giving them the stats on joblessness and homelessness and linking them to Glenn Greenwald posts and Pro Publica investigations will at least break their stride.

Also, if you are man enough to stand up to the bloggers shamelessly propagandizing for Obama and his corporatist policies, you should aim for the blog owners. They’re the ones cashing in on it, to the detriment of millions of Americans.

  3. I mean, you might be able to squeeze a little honesty out of them, which would then give their flocks of sheep something to THINK about. That’s the deal with this idiotic partisanship. People go there because they want a crowd that helps them ignore the hard part… the THINKING part… the looking at actuality and doing something about it part.

  4. As with anybody who has tried to coalesce with something foreign to US, (even on familiar soil), we must try to understand the difficulties of our leaders in bringing obviously inevitable justice to unknown multitudes.

    Yeah. I’m drunk again…

  5. After watching all of this develop in the news, on TV, etc. I wonder if actually teaching the Geneva Conventions and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) would make a difference in this discussion.

Maybe if we taught youth about IHL in schools there wouldn’t be so much confusion about what it all means. There’s a petition out now– Protect the Vulnerable in War: Teach the Geneva Conventions— found at http://bit.ly/RCpetition

Think about it: how many of the people commenting on torture and IHL actually learned about the Geneva Conventions before voicing their opinions all over? Sign the petition!
