Some things stay the same and some things change. It keeps things interesting. The Associated Press is reporting the following from Cuyahoga Co., Ohio; “Vote totals couldn’t be pulled from memory cards of some electronic voting machines used in a special election, forcing poll workers to transport the machines to Cuyahoga County’s election headquarters for results to be counted.” This happened the day that the county’s election director, Michael Vu, was resigning under duress. The failed memory cards have failed before. No one has yet got a clue that they need to change the way they are holding elections and the first step should be to get rid of the Diebold TSx machines. // Meanwhile in Sarasota Co, Florida the county Supervisor of Elections and constant proponent of paper-less voting, Kathy Dent, is pushing to get rid of her failed ES&S iVotronic DREs so she can get the optical-scan system that the voters demanded. My how people suddenly change their tunes when the voters speak loudly in an election. …

    1. John,

Why do they work many times as hard to do it the wrong way? Why don’t they do it right, which is a much easier way (no complicated cover-up and lie-about-it system needed), and relax a bit?

I can’t help but see a masochistic or sadistic pattern in this behavior. I mean on top of the psychotic denial which is painfully obvious.

This is like the faith based system of Ted Haggard who is now becoming a psychologist … out of the fire and into the frying pan.

    2. Bev parsed over Holt’s bill, I thought she did a pretty good job, my fav “Holt contemplates the invasion of these United States by the Federal government. If passed, it would BREAK the voting system in the states while establishing a dictatorship to handle things: the Election Assistance Commission (“EAC” or just “the Commission”) with its four commissioners appointed by the president of the United States.” (quote from Alan Dechert, from the Open Voting Consortium )
      Link

    3. In actuality the president only nominates the commissioners and he only nominates those that were suggested by congressional leaders.

The Senate majority leader has one commission position, the minority leader another. The Speaker of the House has one position and the minority leader another. Those people recommend someone to fill their position to the president.

The president then nominates that person, if he agrees, to the Senate and the Senate interviews and votes on the candidate.

Unfortunately the only good commissioners both resigned in disgust (Soaries and Martinez).

    4. IF these folks change their behvior when they see the voters care, imagine how much more honest elections would be if we tried, convicted and EXECUTED just one corrupt Rethuglican election official for treason?

I bet they would start to take serving on the elections boards and at poll stations and as Secretary of State QUITE seriously then.

    5. I nominate John Gideon, Bev Harris, Jim March, Kathleen Wynne, Clint Curtis, and Brad Friedman to the Commission (EAC).

They are honorable and honest people with a penchant for good election systems.

The complete freakin idiots who have been on the commission here-to-fore, excepting those John mentioned, are “doing a heckuva job” and therefore need to fade into the same historical location where all bad dreams end up.

Listen to us on this one congress.
