No big surprises as the new Congress moves in Рnot in either house. New Speaker Nancy Pelosi said all the right things Рabout bipartisanship, diversity, women, the border, health care, standing strong. Nice, listenable, good applause lines, and she seemed genuinely welcoming and warm to the kids she brought up to the podium to celebrate. Sorry for the clich̩, but of course only time will tell if she can get anywhere with the House divided.
With those kids in mind (what dreams do they have? Will we see any of them come back to the floor as leaders?) I check in with HANNAH EHRLICH of Lee and Low publishing house. Earlier this year she wrote this thoughtful piece on the PBS Great American Read poll. We talk about whether the diversity we’re increasingly seeing in Congress is reflected in the books our kids are exposed to.
Finally: Speaker Pelosi tipped her hat to health care, but we’re a long, long way from the ideal: affordable care for everyone. Health care futurist JOE FLOWER has some solid advice on navigating the system we have now. Hold off on that colonoscopy or mammogram before you listen in.

If the host did their homework, she’d realize how little Democrats or the nation have to cheer to find the cosmically corrupt Pelosi wielding the gavel. Her family have made a very lucrative business out of ripping off taxpayers of prime land of former military bases some of which didn’t want to close (Hunter’s Point). Her husband, a developer has benefited directly from Nancy’s positive in Congress, various sons, nephews and campaign workers have been in on the grab. Communities that house military bases are supposed to have that land returned to the community. Not in Pelosi’s state.
Her corruption and fear of exposure were the reason impeachment was taken off the table. She is a second generation corrupt politician. She learned at her father’s knee.
